2011 Juge - 2012 Keller G-Max - 2016 Keller Abts E

  • 2011 Marcel Juge Cornas - France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Cornas (12/13/2021)
Holy shit, this is in the running for the best Juge I’ve had. Wild animalistic notes, peppers, bold olives, soy sauce, dried bark, Asian herbal medicine, spiced fruits, and other exotic flavors. The density of this wine is awesome, but it’s also somehow so elegant on the palate, like a red Burg. The length on the finish is insane.

Wowza. (96 pts.)

The G-Max is SO persistent. Insane energy and finish that just lasts forever. Much more unctuous and honeyed with melon and tropical notes than the leaner Abts E. This is unlike anything else, for sure. The only white wine that left as strong of an impression this year was the 2013 Moreau Batard Montrachet. (98 pts.)

Big hit of petrol, fresh herbs, white stone fruit, scorching acid, and crisp minerals. Incredible precision and intensity. It’s more linear and less generous than it was two years ago (damn, it’s been that long?!), but still drinking nicely. Picked up more density and fruity character the next day. Hold if you have one, but feel free to try if you have multiples. (94 pts.)

Good call, Curtis. I’ve had about six bottles of that 2011 Juge, it’s fantastic. The 2014 is cut from the same cloth. Quite open and crazy aromatics!

Thanks for the excellent notes. I really love Keller’s GGs across the board in ‘16 and have been holding off on opening any for the last few years, but maybe it is time to take a peak.

A bit OT - but was this pic taken at Benu? Really nice wines btw.

I too love the weight, or lack of, in Juge.
