2011 Dom Faury Cote-Rotie

2011 Domaine Faury Cote-Rotie

Out Pappy hunting today and saw this. Thought it might be a nice drink while watching a little football on a chilly night. Hadn’t tried any of the 2011 Faury yet. Decanted 2 hours. Dense purple with a complex, enticing nose of flowers, herbs, tar, smoke and meat. Maybe a little matchstick at the end. Nice mouthful of dark cherries and blackberries with some smooth tannins in the background. Nice, tart acidity on a lengthy finish. This is in a good place right now and I don’t know if age would improve it. Glad I picked it up and I did enjoy it, but I don’t think it is worth the upgrade from a Faury St. Joseph.

Cheers!

Thanks for the note. I picked up a couple of these (along with the St Joe VV) but haven’t popped one yet. I think I’ll let it sleep. Have you had the 2010?

I have and I think the 2011 may not be built for the long haul like the 2010’s. I plan to drink the 11’s now while the 10’s sleep.

Faury’s Cote-Rotie is from young vines (5-20 years old) and contains a substantial amount of viognier (10%), and he de-stems much of his crop (about 70-80%), giving a youthfully fresh, lifted, clean wine. Like all of his wines, the emphasis is on freshness and joyous fruit, and, especially with the Cote-Rotie, finesse. Whether it’s worth the extra tariff over his Saint-Josephs is a matter of personal preference.

Thanks for the info guys. I’ll go far the 11s over the 10s in the near term.
