2010 (French) Rosé?

Always look forward to spring and the latest rosés, Curious at what people are drinking/planning on drinking this year. I picked up some La Ferme Julien from Trader Joe’s. The first 2010 I encountered. Servicable, especially at the price point.

Looking forward to trying the Château de Roquefort Corail based on last year’s bottling. Same for the Bastide Blanche due any time now at a local shop. Also, trying out a new one this year: Château de Pampelonne, from near St. Tropez. Seems promising. Very pale.

Very much enjoyed Ch. Lancrye the past two years, with many bottles drained. Probably skip it his year to try something different.

Let’s hear about your favorites

This year’s lineup of 2010 French rosés for me includes:

Château Mourgues du Gres Costières-de-Nîmes “Fleur d’Eglantine” - annual favorite, crisp, dynamic, light, more similar to 2008 than 2009 version
Château Mourgues du Gres Costières-de-Nîmes Les Galets - fatter, softer, more fruit
Château Grande Cassagne Costières-de-Nîmes Rosé - basic, pretty, strawberry-fruit dominant
Domaine les Aphillanthes Côtes du Rhône Rosé - another annual favorite, picked up yesterday, not tasted yet
Domaine Lafond Tavel Roc-Epine - also not tasted yet
Pascal & Nicolas Reverdy Sancerre Terre de Maimbray - pretty mostly strawberry

I think we could be friends

I plan to pick up some Houchart Rose’ from Provence at a shop in Raleigh. This shop usually carries a number of rose’ wines for the summer months so I will see what they have. I like wines from Tavel and the Muga rose’ from Spain and may try a few domestic rose’ wines if they carry any from California or Washington. I have in the past enjoyed rose’ from the Syrah grape or Cabernet Franc but particularly like Pinot Noir rose’ such as Cotat wine from Sancerre.

I didn’t know Domaine les Aphillanthes made a rose; do you know what makes up the blend?

looking for 2010 Baudry Chinon Rose

I’m not sure of the exact makeup, but very likely some grenache, syrah and others.

It’s a lighter, crisper, styled rosé that is the perfect companion to grilled sockeye salmon.

I’ve been drinking Les Aphillanthes reds for 10 years, but first came across this when visiting Daniel Boulle about 5 years ago and have sought it out since then. Well worth the price.

Indeed!

Sounds really good and I wonder if there’s some cinsault in there? Hopefully it will make it’s way out west.

Thanks,
Brett

P.S. I’ll throw my vote towards Chateau de Pampelonne. A mostly cinsault based rose that’s perfect with lighter fare on a hot summer day.

Joguet Chinon Rose. All Cab Franc, and delicious. Pairs with just about anything from the grill. Didn’t get any last year, and regretted it for most of the summer. Won’t make that mistake this year.

+1 on the Fontsainte. Currently tearing through a case of that. Waiting on Canorgue and the Triennes with baited breath.

purchased a case and most likely will need more at $11.99 per b

Exactly where in St. Louis are you?

ooh, the Triennes. Almost forgot about that one

Monardiere Vacqueyras Rose 2010

Mourchon Loubie Seguret Rose 2010

and Tempier bandol Rose 2008 in magnum (I always find it’s better with a couple of year’s age on it).

Used to sell it, but give Dom. de Nizas 2010 Rose, Languedoc a shot for $13.

Jim A and Jim K, glad you are enjoying/have enjoyed our Triennes rosé. I hope you are pleased with the 2010. In line with the earlier vintages and as always, heavily cinsault dominated. Perhaps a bit more freshness in 2010 than in 2009. In Provence in 09’, the grapes destined to pink wine got a little riper than usual. In 2010, they were just right. Thanks for your support!

Jeremy is this the Triennes?
Domaine de Triennes Vin de Pays du Var Rosé

Saint-Peyre (100%) Syrah Rose, they also make a Picpoul de Pinet, and last year’s was a great deal at around $8.
