2009 Tierra del Sol Malbec Mendoza Argentina

My wife adores Malbec and she pointed out (correctly) that we don’t open them often enough. We made New York strips and veggie risotto last night, so I grabbed one of these to pair up.

Popped and poured. Fake cork (ugh). Opaque purple in the glass. Nose was blackberry and my grandmother’s date bread baking in the house. I’m immediately biased in a good way. Big fruity mouthfeel, figs and blackberries all over the mid palate. Full bodied to be sure. The finish lasted a while and showed a nice black licorice character. Pillow soft tannins here. This is fruity, but not syrupy sweet or oaked to death.

I generally enjoy Argentine Malbec, but find on entry level bottles that they tend to fall apart after some air time. This is a big time qpr ($12) winner. Will definitely pick up more as a nice daily sipper.
