Definitely a buyer. Gotta figure it out.
I moved from a C0 to a C2 this year because I skipped last year.
I skipped last year because there was not a single tasting note about the wines anywhere. Are there any around this year or is it the same situation?
I went from C1 back to C2 after only buying about half of my (huge) allocation last year.
The only drawback that matters to me is that I only get two Botella, whereas I got six last year (and Randy indicates that C1s get six this year); otherwise, I’m still allocated 24 bottles or so, which is more than I can realistically buy.
I don’t say this to downplay my own enjoyment of Sea Smoke, particularly once it gets past 2-3 years from release, but there is no other wine I’ve ever owned which is so universally beloved by my non wine-geek friends, neighbors and relatives. Everyone always just adores their pinots, whether people who know little about wine, or people of good taste who enjoy wines but just stick to the basics, or people who maybe visit wineries and read wine publications a bit but don’t get in much deeper than that. It even draws out praise from people who are the types to rarely ever praise anything.
I haven’t received anything other than the “coming soon” mail about a month ago.
Of course, I’m in the middle of moving to a new state with much more expensive housing, and working on selling my house, so my wine budget is a little bit constrained right now anyway…
i just logged on and it says no allocation. I bought the 2008s, so not sure why
Got my allocation today and was moved up to a C1, same allocation as listed but guessing the One Barrel is already gone. Would love to take a 1/2 case of each and the 3 pack of the chard and a mag or 2 of the Southing. UGH! Not sure what I can afford, but would love to take it all! -mJ
C1 and C2 usually go first… others a week or so later
I’m pretty disappointed in the allocations. After being a C-1 for years I was dropped to C-2 this year after only spending $800 last yr. The full allocation for a C-1 last year would have been about $2000. So my long term loyalty (since the 2002 vintage) and having spent over $6500 on Sea Smoke is rewarded with 2 Botellas this year.
Dammit…I don’t need this coming out right now. Maybe it’s my imagination, or maybe it’s a couple extra lists I got on this year, but the last 4 weeks have been brutal and unsustainable. Time to pop one from a prior vintage in prep (as a homework assignment) for my C2 or C3 position, whatever it is…an offer that has yet to be made. For me, the homework is necessary given a fairly radical palate change over the last 12 months - from really big ----> more finesse. Had one of these the other night (2005 Southing) and liked it, but it was at the back end of a big evening. So…I think I need to try one in a more controlled environment:)
Are these allocations coming by email or snail mail?
My situation is almost exactly like yours, except that 2004 was my first vintage. That said,I am allocated more than I will buy. Love the stuff but already have nearly 3 cases in cellar. I gather Botella is even scarcer than usual this year. Ten is not a good enough QPR at $80 . Too much competition at lower prices now.
According to my inventory I still have a bottle of 01 Botella. Anyone had that lately?
Just checked went from C1 to C2 this year. Have 3586 points. How many points do others have?
I had a 2001 Southing back in summer of 2009, from magnum, and it was an absolute beauty with plenty of good years ahead. I’d guess your bottle is very good, though I’d probably drink it this year if it were me.
4,992 here and also demoted to C2.
I have 5790 and was demoted to C2. Go figure.
Iv’e never bought the Chards, how are they?
Where on the site do you see your current level? When I look at “Allocations”, all I see is my history (going from c5 to c1 as of 03/2010), but nothing on current status.
