Well, sometimes you lose. IMO anybody who buys / bought this is going to regret it.
The aromas weren’t really bad. There was a lot of oak, smoke, butter and butterscotch. The palate featured all of the above, along with a needle of acidity about as welcome and appropriate as a splinter in your big toe. Butter and boredom were the main components. After a few sips, I put the rest of the bottle in the fridge to try again tonight. It got worse, as the buttery component now smelled and tasted rancid. Not rated; I don’t do negative numbers.
Well…tell us how you really feel about this wine, Dan.
Out of idle curiosity, I tried one of these about a yr ago. Not really bad stuff, but just plain borrrrring as hell.
I simply couldn’t drink more than a glass of this stuff. If you chill it way down in an ice bucket, even then it’s
still pretty boring.
Any guesses on if this wine actually ever saw an oak barrel in its life??
Tom
I’m a +1 on your review. Bought it a few weeks ago at Costco and boy what a bummer. My wife digs Chard and thought this would be an easy buy…one sip and one look at me…I knew this one would never be bought again…
2008 Kendall-Jackson Chardonnay Vintner’s Reserve- USA, California (3/22/2012)
The warden found another bottle of this vintage. I just got back from the dentist after having my teeth cleaned. The combination is probably deadly, like drinking battery acid. Off to open a boddington’s which is more enjoyable anyway.
About three years ago, we organized a single blind tasting of domestic high End Chardonnay and the 07 KJ Vitner’s Reserve was placed in the middle. I thought it was very well made and certainly a great QPR.
