2008 Ap Vin Pinot Noir Kanzler Vineyard Sonoma Coast

Unscrewed and decanted for 4 hours before serving. Dark garnet color. Nose has brown sugar and some dark red fruit. Really messy on the palate even with the decant. Fizz shows a literal cherry cola profile that takes a good hour to blow off. The oak influence is prevalent here as well. Lots of caramel swirling around the mouth. Fortunately, the cherry notes here are tart enough to compete with the sweeter aspects. Tannins are a bit chalky and the finish is clipped. This is a bit all over the place and I can’t really say where it’s going. Fortunately, the 15.2% alcohol isn’t manifested with heat on the palate.

I do like this producer, and I have only had his Kanzler bottling a couple of times. This is not his finest hour IMO.
