$175.00 a pop. Why aren’t I pissed that they raised the price $25.00 a bottle? 40% of the price of Harlan 23% of Screagle and of similar quality most years. Oh well, I am committed to buying this 3 pack so I will. [blackeye.gif]
Anyone going to pass???
I pass. But then I have made that clear for a while. Quality has decreased as production has increased- IMO. Oh yeah, now price increase. You can, of course, argue that it was a marginal quality decrease- but come on, in the world that they are playing in that is all I need to say no thanks.
John the 03 was a considerable achievement. I believe that the wine has been a reflection since that vintage of the subsequent vintage characteristics more than a quality decrease based on increased production. It is true that TRB has managed to make amazing wines in 06 at Schrader, but most other wineries have produced similar wines of vintage character in 06 as did Scarecrow. I passed on Celia’s 06 Corra because it was extremely tannic. At least this wine is not.
I am less than thrilled with a price increase in any wine in this rotten Economy, but this year this wine gets a pass from me. Fortunately I already got my 06 Schraders and was able to purchase a case of the Lewellings that are terrific wines for the money. Maybach 06 and I am through the mailer season. ( I already received my QC allocation).
I tried the 06 this afternoon. Very good, well made - but no where near the 05, IMHO. I’m not on the list, so it doesn’t matter to me – but I would buy the 06’s, just to get their 07’s. And I have dropped almost every list on earth – I believe Scarecrow is the new Screagle (so long as they keep production low/quality real high).
And speaking of the second label thread – aren’t they launching Tin Man soon?
I am buying. Not pleased with the price increase, but I want to remain on this particular list for the '07 and so I will buy the '06. This will be the only cab I buy that’s north of $150. LIke others have mentioned, I am shifting my buying strategies and purchasing much more in the $50-$80 range, such as Rivers Marie, Lewelling, karl Lawrence, Match, Ladera, Betz, Myriad, Rudius, Seavey, Audelssa etc. I will splurge on Scarecrow and a couple others like Schrader and Maybach, in limited quantity, but that’s it, no more.
Based on what I’m reading it seems like this might be my first opportunity to get an allocation here. And if I do I’m pretty sure I will be buying (assuming they take credit card payment!). After taking my Pride reserve, QC, KB, Williams Selyem, Dehlinger, and Kutch allocations, though, I am waiting for one (or more) of the credit card companies to call and put a halt to my ill-advised spending.
Just a public service announcement for those on the fence.
I had the 06 yesterday – it was pretty good. Not near as nice as 05, but with the track record, the prospects of 07 – I think staying on is an easy call.
Yes it does but lets hope it doesn’t go to their heads and they raise the '07 too much, the '06 going up $25 was a big enough leap considering some wineries are only raising their prices a couple bucks, which seems like nothing in comparison .
