I am waitlisted on Schrader’s mailing list with probably no chance to get an offer on their 2007 releases. Did receive an offer on their “value” DD cabernet but don’t know anything about it. In the past, I tried their zins but didn’t find them too interesting. Does anyone know if the DD cs are worth trying?
Thanks Jack. I forgot that they do offer way ahead of actual release. By the way. I did buy a few bottles of Myriad based on your and other people recommendations.
There are a lot of people who found the 2006 Double Diamonds to be a great value, and who plan on buying the 2007’s. Me for example. They taste nothing like the big boy Schraders, but they are tasty.
The '06 Double Diamond I tasted last weekend was “good, but boring.” I don’t know about you, but I prefer to steer clear of bottles I know to be boring.
That is sort of my issue as well Brian. It is not a bad wine. It is a Schrader and it is true that it is 1/4 of the price of their Napa Cabs, but it is not a Napa Cab, it is a Red Hills Amber Knoll wine. It is grown in close proximinty to the Beckstoffer vineyards from which they produce the “75” Wine. That wine is less than half the price of the DD but certainly not half the wine. The $5-6 a bottle shipping only adds to the lack of value of this slightly boring wine. I can see that it would have it’s fans like Curtis, but I am just not one of them.
