2007 AP Vin Pinot Noir Kanzler Vineyard Sonoma Coast

Tasted over two days. Dark garnet, opaque at the core. Day 1 had a floral nose with some dark red fruit. New oak definitely present on both the nose and in the mouth. The palate showed black cherry and a very distracting black tea note. Some like that, I find it very distracting in Pinot. Big wine with a long finish and firm tannins. No apparent acidity.

Day 2 offers a nice nose with softer fruity components and some earthy tones showing up. The fruit on the palate has begun to fade, but the oak really hasn’t, manifesting a butterscotch flavor around the black cherries. The structure on this wine has begun to show itself as well. A much nicer mouthfeel and more refreshing on day 2.

Compared to the 08 Kanzler, this is a bit more put together. Could be the extra year of bottle age as well.
