Vincent has now made three vintages of pinot in his garage. I never tasted the 2006, but his efforts with 2007 and 2008 (Meredith Mitchell and Zenith vineyards respectively) are stunners. They’re the equal of most anything in the $20-25 range from Oregon. With his first commercial vintage coming in 2010, he’ll be graduating from one barrel to several and will be able to add more complexity to his wine by being able to vary cooperage and regimen and then blend.
I urge all Berserkers to follow Vincent’s efforts and to support him by purchasing his wines when they become available. He’s learned well from his mentors, who include Brian O’Donnell and John Grochau.
Back back back back back . . . touch 'em all, Vincent, 'cause you’ve hit back to back home runs, rookie.
Not surprised, but happy to hear this nevertheless. Looking forward to seeing Vincent’s handiwork available for purchase.
Nice! I’ll have to check it out.
I see Vincent fairly regularly at my store. He had brought me by a bottle to try but I had temporarily misplaced it. When I found it I actually waited so we could taste it together. I was quite impressed and said that it was as good or better than much of the commercial ones I taste. It had nice depth and some of that earthy complexity. We talked about pricing and my comment was that it depends on how fast he wants to sell it. I really saw his wine as a very good value at $25. I certainly hope to be one of those that sells it. I look forward to tasting the 2008.
Bob, thanks again for coming and for writing it up. Very cool. As we know, you don’t pull punches so I appreciate your perspective. My home winemaking goes back to 2001, but indeed I didn’t get serious until 2006. My first commercial harvest is 2009. I’m really happy with what I’ve been doing here in the garage, but you get what you get from one barrel. Indeed, I can’t wait to make more and have that ability to experiment and blend.
Michael, thanks for your perspective as well. I’m in so much because you’re one of the best retailers around. Glad you’re interested in what I’m doing.
