2006 Faiveley GC Clos de Corton Slow-ox or decant? 1.5L

Title sums it up, haven’t had any Corton from Faiveley before and am wondering whether to just slow-ox for a day or to decant into 2 decanters then pour back into the bottle prior to serving. It’s from a magnum.

Thanks in advance! [cheers.gif]

Slow ox probably won’t do anything

I guess I could get out a blender.

Beau, from (bitter) personal experience I’d recommend holding if you can:

If you do open, double decant, blend, whatever you can, I’m not sure it’ll help …

Cheers, Howard

Thanks for this, Howard. I also have an 06 Echezaux that we may substitute. It’s a 750ml too, so I could more easily double-decant for several hours.

I don’t have any experience with the '06 vintage, but if Howard’s comments are representative I would look for a different vintage to open “early”. '00s should be decent now, for instance. Even '01s or '02s maybe. Not at all sure about anything more recent.

Based on CT, I may be better served opening up the Echezaux. I have an 07 Jadot Corton that I’ll pop too, just for fun.

Thanks for posting I found a 6-pack of these. Guess I’ll lose them again.

Or do me a solid and crack it.

Is 2006 the first of the kinder, gentler Faiveley or the last of the iron fist in iron glove Faiveley?

Craig, comparing the Cazetiers and Cortons for the 2006 and the 2007 I’d say more the latter. Both of the 2007s are presently much more accessible than the two 2006s. However, vintage may be a major factor.

Beau, I’d be interested in your thoughts on your '07 Corton as the Faiveley Corton '07 I had was drinking very well.

Howard

march was 2007 cazetiers open and really nice to drink.(pop and pour)
Second day also.

Howard, the last two bottles of 07 Jadot Corton I had were lovely wines, very expressive but true to vintage. Lots of nuanced flavors but still that balanced concentration of tart red fruit that I thoroughly enjoy. If we open another, I’ll post a note on it.

Thanks Beau,

Howard

If you want to drink a Faiveley CdC now, I would recommend a '10. It is outstanding and still open for business.

How’s the 11 CdC?

Beau…open an 06…post a note…you’re getting sleepy.

Slow-ox for 2 days, then decant for 6 hours … then pray …

Pretty sure it was '07 on when things seemed to have changed…

Agree…

Damn, I’ll have to see if Vinopolis has any 2010 Faiveley around. I may just open the 2006 Echezaux tonight and slow ox for 24 hours.
