2006 Carlisle Zin Bacchi Ranch

Just opened,

Oaky, sloppy mess. I sure hope this opens up with some air. I may have to re-cork and check it tomorrow.

Whoa. Funky. Not like the bottle I had last … but that was quite a while ago. November 2008. Hopefully just shut down a touch because I totally dug it back then. I was thinking about taking one to dinner tomorrow … but definitely going to let it rest a bit more.

I had this wine on the 16th, and had very different results:

  • 2006 Carlisle Zinfandel Bacchi Ranch - USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley (8/16/2009)
Poured dark and full bodied, rich blackberry flavors, hints of cola, cracked white pepper and sage. The alcohol is well hidden and the wine is nicely balanced. Really nice wine overall and was still alive and full bodied on day two. Nearly as good as the 06 Carlisle Sc Syrah we had afterwards. (91 pts.)

Doesn’t sound like the 06 Bacchi that we had as part of a dinner with Mike at the end of May:

The Bacchi’s were a bit more of a mixed bag. The 2005 exhibited cooler restrained fruit that I have come to associate with Mike’s 2005s, with medium mouth density; however, this one exhibited some heat on the finish and there was a hint of alcohol on the nose. The 2006 Bacchi was an improvement IMO, with sweet fruit (although no discernable RS) and a mouth coating mouthfeel. There was a little bit of tartness on the finish that detracted slightly.
