I just bought one at PLCB (Pennsylvania) for $45, haven’t drank it yet but so far there are good reviews on CT
Brian,
That’s a good price (= to lowest Wine-Searcher), but I’d suggest buying and trying one. I bought a 6-pack each from two different retailers about 6 months ago based on early feedback, WS score and sub-$40 price at the time. The first group arrived about 2 months ago, and the second last week. I recently opened a bottle from the first delivery and found it undrinkable. I am presuming (and hoping) it was flawed since 5 of 6 recent CT reviews gave it good reviews and 92+ scores. My bottle had an extremely dark, brittle cork. It had no nose to speak of and was mouth-puckering (it seemed acidic not tannic). I left it to try on Day 2, hoping things would resolve a bit, but no luck. Ended up pouring it down the drain (cue Charlie Fu avatar), which is extremely rare for me. I enjoy Brunello, and have enjoyed bottles of the 04 Uccelliera and Il Poggione this year.
I have a bottle from the second group in the house, so am hoping for a better result. By the way, not related to your question, but I found it interesting that the bottles from my two deliveries were of different sizes, one about a half-inch shorter than the other. Different importers, so the different back label was expected, but the differing bottle size struck me as odd, particularly for a relatively small production.
Anyway, my best advice is try one since you have the opportunity to buy it locally. You can always go back for more!
Cheers,
Steve
It’s a good price. I (pre)ordered some for $38 each, but am still waiting for it.
