2004 Chablis "La Forest" (V. Dauvissat)

2004 Chablis “La Forest” (V. Dauvissat)
Light-medium yellow.
Lemony, saline nose.
Dry, green lime flavored fruit profile.
The acid is a bit on the low side on this particular bottle, so if this is a representative
sample, it should be consumed ASAP.
This was disappointing considering how this same wine has tasted in the past,
so I’m wondering if this doesn’t have a touch of Pre-Mox…
Would appreciate comments by thiose who have had this recently.

A bottle about a month ago was absolutely pristine and generally wonderful, with considerable complexity: prime-time drinking, I felt.
Purchased, kept and drunk in Europe, though, if that is of any relevance.

I’ve had 2 Forest’s from 2006 and I thought both were premoxed. One was opened this past Monday and it wasn’t as egregious as the first bottle I tried, but I still got a lot of oxidative/honeyed notes.

Paul–how long was the bottle open? You guys all know this, but often times Daussats take an hour or more of air to wake up, and can give closed, reductive notes early that make you wonder if you have an off bottle.

I’ve been avoiding my 2004’s as I like them old, so I don’t have recent experience, but Dauvisat’s can go thru underwhelming stages that can last thru the 10 year mark, so I wouldn’t personally give up on them. Of course, you could have had a bad bottle, but if you really weren’t geting oxidative notes, I would not assume premox.

It’s also pretty clear that Chablis that stays in Europe does behave differently than wines shipped to god knows where.

Any word on the 05s? i have a couple resting I snatched from winebid years ago.
