2003 Arcadian "Stolpman" Syrah

2003 Arcadian “Stolpman” Syrah - 15% alcohol
Deep purple/crimson red with amber at the edge.
Funky dark fruited nose of earth, leather and band-aid (oh-oh).
Earthy cherry fruit with noticeable Brett in evidence.
Too bad, the wine is otherwise nice.
Drink up ASAP!

Paul-

your SOS sent me scurrying, as I have 3. Over the past two nights, the bottle I opened was not a Brett Beast, only a mini-me. Funky, yes. Band-aid, no. Perhaps you got a specially microwaved edition! champagne.gif

But I will polish off the other two before summer’s end.

Thanks for the head’s up…wish there were more PSA’s like this on the board. [stirthepothal.gif] [smileyvault-ban.gif]

2003 Arcadian Syrah Stolpman Vineyard - USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Ynez Valley (1/29/2018)
– popped and poured –
– tasted non-blind over 2 - 3 hours –

NOSE: pleasant, aged savory aspect; ripe; hint of leather; a touch spicy; some sweet oak.

BODY: blood red color of great depth; some sediment present; bricking throughout; medium-full to full bodied.

TASTE: smooth; ripe, rich red fruits; some aged/leather and bitter oak flavors; floral hint; somewhat spiky acidity (or perhaps the 15% alc. poking through); light to medium-light brett — too bretty for Ashley, and it barely crosses that threshold for me, too. NR (flawed)
