Have a trip planned for October in the lake Como area but want to first spend a few days in Milan first. Never been. Is there a better part of the city to look for a hotel? 4 adults. Ideally somewhere were we can walk to most places we might want to go. Thanks.
weve stayed at the senato hotel milano twice…in 2015 and 2016. we should be there in august as well. perfect location in my opinion.
Park Hyatt Milan. Adjacent to the Galleria.
Thank you
We stayed at the straf which is 100m from the duomo and galleria. It was very modern and trendy.

We stayed here several years ago and enjoyed it very much
This.
Park Hyatt is a wonderful spot in Milan.
Personally, I like staying close to the center within walking distance of the Duomo. Easy to get around in Milan with the metro, so pick something that fits your style and budget. You can pay crazy amounts of money at Milan hotels if you’re not careful.
If you like the “living in Milano” feel of an apartment, there are many great options for a fair price. If you need full-service, then hotels are perfect. Some favs of mine in the center, you can find any of these either direct or on booking.com:
Hotels:
- Hotel Spedari al Duomo
- The Street Milano Duomo
- Hotel Gran Duca di York
Apartments:
- Suite La Brera
- Milan Duomo Suites
- Heart Milan Apartments
- Prestige Boutique Aparthotel - Piazza Duomo
Ciao.
We stayed at the Gran Duca de York a couple years ago, and thought it was well situated, with interesting clientele and a great breakfast.
looks like ill be in milan after all for 3 nights in late august after some beach time in liguria. booked senato hotel again fyi.
not to hijack the thread but i now need dining ideas. we were last there in 2016 and this time we’re with our 5 year old son. weve been to ratana and enjoyed that but wont return.
on my tentative list is trippa (we’ve been there in 2016 but they may be closed with the summer break), da giacomo (is this a bad idea for an early dinner with our well behaved son? rovello 18, langosteria, piz. any experience with cantine isola for a glass of wine and aperitivo?
we always have lunch in the courtyard at il salumaio and will do that with him.
any opinions or experiences at the ones listed above?
Does he like fish. Langosteria is a good choice then but not central. Langosteria cafe is in the Center.
I prefer A Riccione for fish but not in a tourist area.
A real local place is Dongio, inexpensive Calabrian restaurant with fresh pasta. .
i was in milan this past october for a quick stay. on the recc of a friend that lived there we stayed at the aethos/the yard right at the canals (tons of bars/restaurants) in the navigli neighborhood. very cool hotel with a not too hip bar and very interesting rooms. i think the walk to the duomo was about 15 minutes. price was about 350 and worth it.
I like Navigli, the Venice-like neighborhood in Milan, fun restaurants and bars. But it’s more like 40 minutes walk to the Duomo.
I’m sure Park Hyatt is best.
If you want a more affordable option, the Westin Palace is right outside the metro , two stops from the duomo.
I have a lifelong affection for them, because on my first visit to Milan with my wife on our fifth anniversary, they gave us a junior suite with a steam room for the night – and then comped the whole tab.
35 years later, not doing any more comping but I still get upgrades to the junior suite with a steam room (I have relatively high status with the chain).
Any recs for the least worst dining option with a view of the duomo? We’re taking our son and figure it’s a nice idea for our first night. We went to spazio in 2016 but didn’t particularly remember the food. Is da giacomo arengario a decent option?
I highly recommend the Osterie d’italia app or book by Slow Food folks for finding some better, less touristic places. I buy and use the app on my iPhone every year, there’s always something new and interesting popping up. I don’t think they make the app for Android, so next best option is to buy the book while you’re there (sometimes you can find on Amazon).
The Osterie d’Italia app for iPhone is here: ‎Osterie d’Italia 2023 on the App Store
Fwiw, I did a write up years ago on the Osterie d’italia book for wine-loving travelers; still works for today’s editions (though wrote back in 2016). You can find it here: Eating Like a Local in Italy: Osterie d'Italia | Dall'Uva
Cheers.
I don’t think there are any with a real view (but not sure).
Spazio I have not been in a while but it’s good and definitely view of the Duomo.
