1999 Musar - half bottle check in

I hadn’t tried this since release when it was one of my favorite young Musars.

Flickinger was offering some in half bottles so I thought this would be a good time to see how it’s doing. Not fully shut down but not fully developed yet either. It was quite enjoyable, a bit light in flavor at the moment, a little VA but just enough to add interest. I’ll check in again in 3 years or so.

Wow, wish I had known about the half bottle offer - what a great wine to have in that size!

They still have 65 375s in stock.

Great wine and I’m glad they have more .

thread drift

Has anyone checked in with the 2004 recently?

I loaded up on Musar from Flickinger.

I’ve liked each vintage I’ve tried (97, 98, 99, 02), but the 99 has the most depth.

Very much enjoyed a bottle last week. Classic Musar with very little volatility.

Too bad it is $28 to ship 5 bottles to me :frowning:

Musar is widely available and much cheaper in England. At http://www.grandvinwinemerchants.co.uk/wine/musaraaa99b-chateau-musar-1999 it’s $27 per 750, plus a buck or two of duty. (You get the full VAT back when you take it out of the country.) They don’t seem to have 375’s at the moment, but I’ve previously bought two cases of 24 halves of the 1999 from them.

Although you can get current vintage cheaper, the drip-release of ‘museum stock’ at rapidly increasing prices makes that 1999 pretty decent value (oddly magnums are even cheaper per case there!)

FWIW duty is £2 a 750ml bottle & VAT is 20% (but yes if it’s worth the claim back of VAT, then that would make it much more attractive)
