1999 M. Chapoutier Côte-Rôtie Les Bécasses

Stood this up for several days. Did a pop and pour and realized afterwards, I definitely should have decanted for a while. First night, even after 3 hours, couldn’t coax any personality out of this wine. Definitely a major change the next night. The nose was full blown potting shed and roast beef. The palate was mid body with dark fruit, earth, and a bit of rotten apple notes which I didn’t care for. Lots of tannins still, but I think it is definitely past it’s prime.

Appreciate the note-I just found 2 bottles of this during some cellar cleaning work yesterday afternoon. Might have to pop on this week to compare.

It’s amazing what you find during cellar cleaning! I did that a couple of weeks ago and was totally surprised with some finds.

Sorry to hear that. I usually like older Chapoutier.
