1997 Martin Ray Cabernet Sauvignon, Santa Cruz Mountains

Medium crimson color with moderate bricking at the rim. The aromas are lovely, fully secondary with red currant and cherry, and hints of conifer, minerals and noticeable but integrated oak. The palate is medium bodied with excellent balance, the flavors reprise the aromas with the conifer now more pronounced. This does not offer the greatest body or intensity, but is a thoroughly enjoyable glass with a real sense of place. Rated 92, drink now and over the next few years.

Nice note as usual Dan. Any idea of the source of the grapes for this wine? Peter Martin Ray maybe?

Yep, i have always liked this bottle

Hi Sean,

I don’t know the grape source for sure (there may have been more than one), but I believe that around that time Fellom Ranch Vineyard, below Ridge on Monte Bello, was selling grapes to them.
