During the period I bought Turley (1994 through 2004 vintages) I may have bought half a dozen Petite Syrahs. Yesterday I opened the oldest of them for my westside wine group. Opened at 6:00, I poured a little in my glass. It was fairly nondescript. I came back to it an hour and a half later and it had developed into a nice, mellow, easy to drink wine, but not one that was particularly noteworthly. Half an hour later I poured some more, and it had become much more tannic. I suspect that if you have one, now would be a good time to drink it.
Any left for today? I’ve found these need 12-24 hours decant time.
No, it was consumed Sunday evening over two and a half hours. It became increasingly tannic during the last hour, so I’m not sure if decanting would have helped or hurt.
