1964 Nervi Gattinara Podere dei Ginepri

I continue to enjoy learning about the lovely wines of Northern Piedmont, not remotely pretentious, just delicious:

4/23/2014

Tawny ruby. Mature nose of old leather, tar, dried flowers, and candied fruit. The palate is savory, lightly saline, and delicately fruity, black and blue. The finish mirrors the nose, with freshening tartness and beautiful smooth tannins. Drunk mostly about 3 hours after decanting, seemingly continuing to improve. As a combination of intense flavors and light texture, this wine is excellent. I am just gaining experience with these old nebbiolos, but if told this was a fine old Burgundy I would be easily convinced.
