1953 Pierre Ponnelle Monthelie

This bottle was amazing. Opened 5 hours ahead, but not exposed to excessive air before in the glass.
Youthful color, wonderful spicy nose and in the mouth still fruit (!), but also spices and soft but pronounced tannins. Extremely fresh. I believe the good vintage shows, despite the age.
Never had a bottle from Ponnelle that was not at least great.

Very cool. I love old bottles like this. And Nicos-esque photos are great.

Yeah, he is a role model in that respect

Sounds very nice Claus. We have had a few excellent older Ponnelle wines over the years.

Jeremy, I had several mature Ponnelle, showing extremely well, this was the first from Cote de Beaune. I was surprised how rich the tannins were.
Most Ponnelles I have had (and stille have) are from Cote de Nuits.
Does anybody know from whom the grapes in Ponnelle Musigny, Bonnes Mares, Beze came from?
