If your favorite is not on the list then it must not be that good…
I’m very surprised to not see the Horse Brass Pub on the list. From strictly a beer standpoint, I’d probably go there before I’d go to any other beer bar in Portland.
How can you not have Naja’s on the west coast list, its a legend.
Cheers,
Bud
Mystifying, really. And it’s no Johnny-come-lately, as it’s been around since 1981.
I’ll just call it an “incomplete list” instead of a crappy one.
Actually that’s a fair assessment Jorge because they do have some amazing bars on the list. But how can anyone with any history of true craft beer not include one of the most recognizable establishments there is?
Cheers,
Bud
Yes. I think it is an attempt at regional equality rather than a true top 100.
Hmmm, I’d come closer to calling it crappy. In Greenville, SC is Barely’s Taproom, and in Asheville, NC is the Thirsty Monk. Both are epic.
Despite the absurd amount of subjectivity in these types of lists, I will say that it’s nice to see well-deserving New England spots like Deep Ellum, Lord Hobo, The Publick House, Ebenezer’s, and Novare Res on there.
I like Toronado in Haight section of SF but leaving out 21st Amendment in the SOMA area is a serious mistake here. They serve their own beer but it is amazing. Better than you can get at Toronado. Toronado is a great dive with classic Haight-Ashbury clientele. They do serve Pliny and some great beers from Portland but there are so many better pub houses in SF.
Toronado has been promoting the microbrew scene as long if not longer than anybody in SF. I’ve been lucky enough to time trips West around their Barleywine fest (40+ Barleywines on draft at 10am is a beautiful thing) and their Belgian Beer Fests (Cantillon on draft for the honeymoon), and those were well over a decade ago. I have a soft spot for them, but they do have a certain seniority.
I do like 21st a LOT, but I think this poll doesn’t include brewpubs or microbreweries, just taphouses.
i’m glad they corrected their mistake from their 2013 list when Hopleaf wasn’t included.
The Toronado (LOWER Haight) is the greatest place on earth.
That is all.
Or Apex.
I think phil may still be crying about sheffield’s being dropped
iit shouldn’t have been dropped. it would be the best beer bar in most US cities.

Yep! Themed events are also done well here. Toronado was a required visit during my Dead years, which at times was monthly.
I’m actually not shocked to see places missing like Naja’s, Lucky Baldwin’s, Stuffed Sandwich, Verdugo Bar, Mohawk Bend, Glendale Tap…You can only fit so many into 100. Then again, perhaps it’s a blessing.

Monday night of beer week for the Chimay event!
