06 Vietti Barbera + 07 Piero Mancini Vermentino di Gallura

Last night, Ed K, Michelle, Traci and I hit flour + water for some pizza. see the food section for my write up on the pizza.

We also had a very nice 05 white rhone that Ed brought but for the life of me I can’t remember the name of it. Heavy on the Grenache blanc and took about 1 1/2 hours to really open. Light, minerals, honeyed fruit…terrific wine…

The ones I do remember:

2007 Piero Mancini, Vermentino di Gallura DOCG, Sardinia ($36 on wine list)
Fun wine. Rich fruit, flowers, and sea air with good acidity. Went well with our salad courses and something I would consider buying retail at probably $16-18. 88/100

2006 Vietti Barbera d’alba, Vigne Vecchie, Scarrone
Popped and poured. A little oaky for some. Nice plush plum fruit, a little earth/mushroom note with well integrated acidity. Nice for drinking now but oakaphobes should probably stay away. The oak didn’t bother me as much as it did Traci. 87/00
