'02 Bouchard Savigny

Praise to those who produce good Burgundy at reasonable prices. Especially from the King of Burgundy value (oxymoron noted) Appellations. Especially in ripe, high acid vintages.

Light to medium ruby color. Lovely aromas of red plums, with undertones of sous-bois and a hint of oak. Medium bodied on the palate with flavors of red plums, black cherries, and a hint of minerals. The texture is solid, but light footed. The finish is long. The wine is foursquare. This is not great, but very pleasing. Rated 88.68. Drink or hold up to five years. This may still improve a point or more.

Another reminder that those who claim they can’t afford to buy decent burgundy have no clue what they’re talking about, and probably have never heard of Savigny. Frankly, the PC’s are so affordable that I’m not sure I’ve ever bought a village wine.

Will third all of that. Savigny is a really cool place to visit, and with PC at $40-50 and drinking great in several vintages it is a relatively good value.

Savigny produces both great wine and great values. Not wishing to one-up anybody, I’ve recently found PCs in the $30-35 range. A dream come true for Burgundy-lovers.
