Any intel on the 2020 001 Vintners Cabernet being released next week? Are you buying?

It might be composed of MacDonald fruit, but I think most of us were really hoping the '21’s were releasing instead.
None of us were really expecting a 2020 release.
I might receive an allocation, but planning on skipping if I do (hoping I will still be able to get an allocation next year). I’d split with someone if someone else was interested in doing so though.
It’s been a crazy $$$ month with Käännös, Bergman, MOWE Napa Valley, and Palisades Canyon (another Graeme wine) coming around the corner.

The 2019 was fantastic! I took six, and will take six again of the 2020 if offered.
Also looking forward to Palisades Canyon and Mowe!

001 is hosting small dinner in LA pouring the 19, 20, 21 on Sunday. Will be sure to pass along thoughts of the 20 afterwards.
I’m kinda in the same camp. September has been a $$ and wasn’t expecting a 001 after KE, Bella Oaks, and some of my Pinot lists.

I spoke to Graeme and it’s about 65% Ecotone fruit with some MacD fruit it in. Unlike other ‘20s (Kongsgaard, Salty Goats) which were 100% MacD fruit.

Im surprised people would pass on a Graeme made wine that is a blend of Ecotone and Mac. Dream blend. But maybe i trust 20’s fruit from Graeme’s hands more than others

Dinner was hosted by Jack, who was extremely generous with his time and flown to LA in the afternoon after starting harvest at 2am.
Jack shared the wines with a group of about 8. He answered questions about the vineyard, the history, the evolution and future plans for Ecotone from a farming and plantings/production pov. All very exciting with a real focus on the terroir and what makes Ecotone unique from other sites. His passion for the project is clearly evident.
All wines were doubled decanted about 3 hrs prior to serving
2019: the most “young” of all 3. Powerful, brooding 100% new oak. Black fruit, cassis, chocolate, a bit dusty and earthy. Complex, integrated tannins and mouthfeel. Could use another 5+ years on cellar. 14.6%
2020: as pointed out earlier, about 65/35 Ecotone fruit. Smooth tannins, dark blackberries, blueberries, milk chocolate, almost a stoney feel, tobacco leaf, maybe a hint of rusty iron. This was the most ready to ready drink of the three. The label does not designate any vineyards. 14.5%. Shade over 500 cases produced.
2021: my favorite of the 3 as the night evolved.
Blackberry, black currant, dark chocolate, and tobacco. Warm delicious mouthfeel with beautiful smooth tannins. 2021 was a great vintage and this is a fantastic expression. 70% new oak. Quite different from the 2019 (and based on the conversation had, future vintages likely to be more similar to the 21 vs 19 stylistically. Hide for 10+ years. (Spring 2025 release). Regular production so slightly above 300 cases produced.

Am now leaning heavily toward picking up the 2020, told my self NO but…would be my only 20 Napa Cab in the cellar! Not going to get any MacDonald (unless on open market) for many, many years so at least would get a taste of the grape?

How’s everyone feeling about the release today? Less excitement and chatter on this than I expected given Graeme making the wine and the fruit being a blend of MacD and Theo.

I think all of our wallets are reeling from Kinsman Eades, MacDonald, Bella Oaks, etc and we’re all looking forward to the 2021’s, not 2020’s (even with a little MacDonald fruit).
Plus Palisades Canyon Wines’ (Graeme) inaugural release is happening in a few weeks and I’m really excited for that one.

The palisades reminder/save the date came out via postcard/snail mail. I believe it was 10/8 2pm est.
I am not on the other lists you mentioned but am still hesitant regardless as I don’t really purchase mailing list/untasted wine above $200. But I love and buy a lot of Forman with 15 years of age at auction. Given the style I’ve heard about 001, I’m getting some fomo.
