00 Wines have exploded onto the scene in the last few years because their Chardonnay’s are extraordinary. Their Pinots are not too shabby either and sometimes harder to find than their impossibly hard to get chardonnays!
Eric Guido, critic for Vinous Media writes: “Proprietor Chris Herman, who is influenced by the high-acid German whites he tasted growing up, seeks minerality and tension in his Oregon Chardonnays. Wynne Peterson-Nedry is the winemaker for 00 wines. She brings her extensive knowledge of the region and varietals to the picture. The whites are produced using the “Black” Chardonnay method, which, through foot crushing, oxidation of the must, a heavy press and no lees stirring, produces a very dark juice that goes into the barrel looking deep brown but comes out clear. Legendary Meursault-based Coche-Dury of Meursault does something like this and they are known to have the lowest instances of pre-mox of any of the big Burgundy names. The 2021 Chardonnays from 00 Wines are nothing short of fantastic. White Burgundy lovers must explore this portfolio . Tasted blind, I’d be hard-pressed to place them. Don’t get me wrong, the Pinots at this address are very special, but they exist in the shadow of their Chardonnay portfolio.
