I just want to absolutely confirm attendance so I know what vintages are truly spoken for. I also want to avoid splitting the bottles too many ways, but don't want to turn people down (I still have more asking about attending) on that account and then have those who I thought were coming not attend.

Eric, I think you're the only one who hasn't gave a thumbs up do December 1 as being good for you. Are you in?

Jonathan, are you going to be flying out for sure?
Jeff my gf gave the green light so it's a go. Really looking forward to this. I will probably be staying at the Hilton at LAX Is the restaurant far from there ?
Closest Hilton would be in San Gabriel. GOOG maps says its 1.6 miles from Longo resto.

Well I'm still in for the 1st.
Pruning the vine is a primordial gesture through which man passes from barbarity to culture.

I think It would make a lot more sense to stay near the restaurant than the airport, as it is not the best idea to drive a half hour to 45 minutes back to the hotel after an offline. I don't get sloppy at offlines like 20 years ago but why take the chance of being pulled over late at night by LEO, and being hassled. Lyft will be my driver back and forth to the event. So San Gabriel Hilton looks like the choice.

I's pretty sure Dec. 1 is good for me. I'll check to make sure and let you know otherwise. But go ahead and book.

Done!

12/1

6:30pm

Longo seafood

Bring stems as they don’t have a ton. But their stems are decent if you need em.

Reserved a king crab. (Prepared three ways as pictured below!)

I was about to say that Dec 1st or 8th could likely work, but the 1st is better as I try not to miss a single Hannukah night and it starts on the 10th..Probably would stay 3 nights. Right now can get round trip non stop which is rare from Htfd for smidgen above $500. Not bad. Have to get ok from gf but she can probably be bribed w a weekend in Newport RI Then I use 105000 total Hilton Honors points for 3 nights at Airport Hilton
Just in case it's important - Channukah starts on Dec 2 for the first candle according to my calendar. Having said that, you are welcome to come light candles with us. We're about a 20 min drive from LAX.

And you're in Hartford? I am sometimes there for work.

Hi Adam
Would be thrilled to join you. I was thinking that my son had told me the holiday started the 10th but he was referring to the last day. No worries it's all good. I will miss the first night with him, but he is ok with it. Also guaranteed all his presents. Would be thrilled to join you at your home. I am not in Hartford per se, but I am not far away at all. I am in Middlefield a tiny town of 4000 folks with a little ski mountain and very tranquil. Smack dab in the middle of the state 30 min from Hartford or New Haven.

OH NO !! I just booked my non-refundable ticket for the 11th . only kidding...Setting my new record for longest distance flown for an offline. Previous record was for an epic Cab showdown in Tampa at Capital grille. Couldn't do Berns as I was only in town for one night. But will next time.

I was thinking we had all vintages from 88 to present.. don't know how I forgot about 89. Nonetheless, we still have a dang solid lineup. Really looking forward to it!

I'm very interested. I see that a lot of vintages have been spoken for but I can contribute '85. I'm 900 miles from my storage and it's 350 miles from LA but I'm always down for a road trip. Also, Dec 1 is my birthday. Have you got room for one more?

Thank you, thank you, thank you ERPark!! As it turns out one of his bottles is stored where I keep mine. He's going to pick mine up when he gets his. Wow.

That turns a 1950 mile motorcycle ride into just 1190.

How could I turn down a fellow wino on his birthday?! I will put you down for the 85.

I figured on bringing some kind of bonus wine as well. I was also thinking that with this many people, we could source a Krug rose to add to the lineup for like $27 a head, if people were interested in such a thing.. for completeness of the tasting. Heck for like $40 something we could add GC and Rose.

Whatever you're excited about! This is turning into a party. Glad I'm staying nearby!

Some logistical things I've been thinking about: Charlie, do you think the restaurant might be willing to provide some kind of big ice container? I'm worried that we might have wines waaay far apart in temperature, as people are all traveling different distances and may / may not have refrigeration available immediately before hand.

Also, does someone far smarter than me want to posit how we should do the flights? What order and what wines should be served alongside what other wines?

they'll have ice buckets for us. Not a giant container, but separate ones. I wouldn't advise we keep them in the bucket for long or it'll get too cold.

Just go by age bracket. Small pours of each flight and then afterwards people can come back to them after they have some air. I'll be happy to pour for everyone just to make it easier. It's a nice round table, so easy to go around

There is a bottle of 89 Krug on the market for about $50 per person to complete the vertical.

Just one voice, but my vote would be to keep things as is, Champagne-wise.

I don't trust the secondary market for Champagne, for the most part. It's fragile. But that's just my experience.

Just curious, how many of the participants bought their bottles at or near release? I bought my '85 three years after release, but from a trusted (in those days ha ha) source.

Yeah, that’s probably a better idea to have more king crab than Krug.

Acquired my 96 at release. Agreed that you have to be careful with secondary market champagne.. but sometimes it's necessary. I'm just not old enough to have collected older vintages on release.

Fortunately I bought my 1990 at release from a retailer I knew well. Hopefully all of these older btls show well Happy to see several with great provenance.

I love the '88. I bought two at release when I bought two '85s. I still have one '88. This '85 is my last.

I can bring some stickies, if we want to round out the non-bubbles lineup. '83 Dow and an '01 Rieussec (375ml of the Rieussec, lest we lapse into diabetic comas), perhaps?

Well I will bring a Chave for the red, it will either be something from the 80's, 90's or 2000's whatever I can find in the nightmare that is my cellar so if I can only find a 09 I don't want to hear any whining that it's too young hitsfan

And my bottle was bought 1 year after release locally fwiw.

I also could bring another bottle. Any requests? Rhone, Burgundy, Bordeaux, California, Portuguese, Italian, Spanish.
A 2nd vote for Rhone, esp since it appears there will be a few other nice N Rhones in the house ...

More details

Longo seafood - 7540 Garvey. Rosemead.

Time: 630 pm

Payment: they only take 2 credit cards per party. Please bring cash or have venmo/PayPal/bankpay. I’d recommend roughly $150 in cash. Could be more could be less. But that’s a rough estimate.

Please bring one extra $10 bill. I’ll be tipping the general manager and the main server for our private room a little extra. They take SUPER amazing care of us and give lots of extra food. the general tip gets split among all the other wait staff and bus boys (there will be a lot of people helping us!)

Stems: if you have your own please bring. They can probably spare 3 stems a person but if you’re from in town please bring your own so our 5 out of towners have plenty of stems!

See you all Saturday
