The company with the best reputation for customer service is Le Cache.
The company with the worst reputation for customer service is Vinotemp.
I've had a no frills Avanti for the last 18 years that just keeps chugging along. No idea if they are still of the same quality.

for anyone wondering about the KoolR (f/k/a vintage keeper) products, i bought the 500 capacity one. the parts either don't fit together as intended or the holes were mis-drilled. i can't put the cabinet together. my small nyc apartment floor is covered in wine bottles. everywhere. 300 or so bottles. customer service has been a bit less than helpful, but it's only been a day. at this point i'd take a full refund and pay a bit more for either the WE 300-btl or 2 WE 166-btls from Costco. so annoyed.

update on the KoolR/vintage keeper. for those who don't know, this is basically an IKEA bookshelf type box with an AC unit in it. i used the rubber mallet to basically bend the plastic part into the holes it needed to go in. it didnt ever go in flat, but it's in enough to hold the cabinet together.
it's loud, but it's not in my bedroom. it has needed a small container to catch excess drainage on days the NYC humidity crept in even with AC.
so.... final verdict? if you want to be cheap, it does the job. we have 300 or so bottles and are wine newbies. probably 240 bottles of beer and 60 bottles of wine. a 500 bottle cooler would have been easily double the $1295 we paid for this. it caused us two weeks of sweat, blood, tears, and marital strife that only furniture building can invite. but we're happy now. and our beer and wine is temperature controlled.

[quote="J. Schenck"]For this price range and capacity, any way to go cheaper without dropping way off in quality?
Larger capacity: http://m.costco.com/Wine-Enthusiast-|-G ... 31680.html
With a two year warranty...what do you do when it craps the bed in 4-5 years? It seems much more cost effective to build a wine room in the house if you're a home owner. I can see this being a viable option if you're a renter though.

I just nabbed a EuroCave compact for $100 off of Craigslist. It is in good working order. It runs cool and quiet. I keep my house apartment in the low 70s more or less year long, so it should last a while,. THe price was right, even if It dies in a year or two, I can just move my cigar stock out of the Marine cooler and into this.
I am pretty new to the hobby. The size works well for me at the moment. But maybe in another year I will be ready to move up to something bigger.

I have Avallon AWC540SZ 54-Bottle Single Zone Built-In Wine Cooler and I love it. This 54 bottle wine cooler from Avallon is definitely one for the serious wine collectors. A large capacity obviously means you’re planning on storing a large collection of wine bottles, but you get more than just large capacity with this cooler.
Featuring a contemporary design with stainless steel trimming, this cooler will fit in well with most interiors. An LED light which lights up your bottles through the clear glass adds some class to the room it’s located in.
A very powerful compression based cooling mechanism is enhanced some air circulation fans to chill your wines at 40-65F. I read great and informational reviews about it on http://www.winecoolery.com/best-built-i ... r-reviews/ and it was very helpful for my decision .

Re: Wine Refrigerators
I apologize for bump this old thread, but I would like to share my experience in this matter, since when I was looking for good advice on this topic for myself.
In my opinion, I would go with the freezerless fridge. It is more expensive (I imagine) and you will need a temperature controller, but the wine fridge just doesn't work as well. Nor do they last as long.
When I first bought a storage system I went with a small wine fridge. It is totally dependent on ambient air temperature. In the summer it could not hold the desired temp. Unless you have somewhere cool to store it, plan on it not keeping your bottles at 54 degrees. In addition, my circuit board burned out after four years in my wine fridge. It wasn't a huge deal as I ordered a replacement and installed myself. But most standard fridges/freezers will last longer.
By the way, you might want to consider an upright freezer. They are typically less expensive than freezerless fridges. I have one that I love. I know people worry about their beer freezing, but if you use the digital temp controller, and set it to fail in the off position, you don't have much to worry about. I have lost power three times since I bought my freezer https://coolerexp.com/best-beverage-cooler-review/ and each time the temp controller returned to 54 when the power came back online.
Currently, it's getting close to being full with around 130+ (bombers, one magnum, 500 ml bottles, cans, etc.) but there's still room left and the shelves can be arranged as needed. The top shelf was cut off but can probably hold ~50 cans on their side.

Well, this is clearly some marketing post masquerading as an informative review, but I will bump this really old thread to say that we have a small Avallon wine cooler (the 15") and love it. The shelf spacing is a little tight, but otherwise the unit is a champ.monty thiessen wrote: ↑November 15th, 2015, 10:31 am I have Avallon AWC540SZ 54-Bottle Single Zone Built-In Wine Cooler and I love it. Anyone have experience with the larger Avallon coolers? The pricing is really good and we're considering buying two 151-btl units.

Going on year 12 with my 3 Home Depot Vissani/Magic Chef 50+ bottle units. Gave one of them to my step-son about 4 years ago and he reports it’s still working fine. These have been a huge value.
Bought a used/dead VinoTemp oak veneer cabinet on the cheap off Craigslist and added a new CellarPro cooling unit. It holds close to 400 bottles when I stack the top shelf properly. All-in for under $2k.

Re: Wine Refrigerators
Just don't buy anything that has a Breezaire in it. I had a rotten experience in the past where they wouldn't stand behind their warranty for the sole reason that the cabinet manufacturer (Vinocraft) went out of business in the 4 years between my buying the cabinet and the cooling issue. Despite the fact that I purchased through a major wine retailer (KLWines) and not directly from the manufacturer, and a year was left on the warranty, Breezaire refused to provide service. In their favor, KL tried to resolve and even offered to sell me another unit at cost. IMO Breezaire has subpar quality and isnt ethical. I wouldn't recommend buying anything with their coolers.

Re: Wine Refrigerators
My suggestion would be to buy one that's 3-4x the size of what you think you'll need. So aim for one that holds 200+ you'll be much happier in the long run. Unless this is for an office then my suggestion would be to just go to Home Depot and buy their 38 bottle cooler. Mine cost me $400 and lasted about a decade.

Re: Wine Refrigerators
I just purchased a Le Cache 3800. I'm awaiting delivery sometime next week (takes 3-4 weeks to get to the East Coast). I have a smaller Eurocave that realistically holds 100 bottles, which I will now be setting up for larger format bottles and Champagne. It has 2 areas where I can store bottles upright. I purchased the Le Cache because of posts I've read on WB, the price for storage of 400+ bottles and other reviews I found online.
I've never used a display shelf/cradle, as all of my bottles in the past were racked (except champagne that I stand upright).
My question is, can a display cradle be used for a bottle that is intended for long term storage if the wine is in contact with the cork but doesn't hit every spot of the cork? I'm interested in displaying only a few bottles but they would be my "trophy" bottles that I don't intend on drinking anytime soon.
I'm not sure this post/question is appropriate for this thread but I thought that may be the answers could help someone else looking for a new form of storage fridge/cabinet as well.
Thanks

Yup. But then there is the "location" and shipping limitations to consider. I've had a Vinotheque on CL for a week with only 1 local inquiry. Its a steal and I've listed it here.Randy Smith wrote: ↑February 14th, 2011, 12:04 pm If you are diligent, some very good deals can be found on craigslist.

Completely agree... I have took an old freezer chest and a temperature controller .. could buy my rig from Craigslist for probably $100.. stores probably 10 cases, more if you take the bottles out. I hope it's ok to post a message on this thread rather than creating a new one.
I recently moved into a new condo and it has a built in GE Monogram single-zone wine refrigerator. This is my first wine refrigerator. The fridge is set to 55f but I haven't tested the humidity. I know this refrigerator is designed as a "serving" fridge but how long can I plan on keeping wine in it? For example, if someone recommended drinking the wine over the next two years. I'm sure it depends on a number of factors but I thought I would ask anyway.
Thanks.

Re: Wine Refrigerators
I hope my idea is useful to someone, for a number of years I had a unit that is basically built to be EITHER a Sauna or a walk in Wine Cellar. With the help of people on Berserker I was guided to purchase a Euro Cave from Wine Enthusiast. I have a unit that supposedly will fit almost 200/btls, which is not possible. That's ok, and it looks very apartment like - modern, clean, BUT, there is something - to me - that is not organic in my relationship to looking for and selecting bottles.
Pulling out draws, it is not like my previous walk in small wine cellar (sauna) or when I go down to my office/warehouse and see and touch the boxes and racks and so on..
This unit is doing its job lovely, and works just like advertised. But my entire relationship, looking at and touching OWC, and reading the names, picturing every image that evokes.. now it is in a neat draw that pulls out.
I do not know what the current price would be of that 'Sauna' walk in wine cellar, however, I think it was about the same as this unit cost me.

There was something at looking at those Burgundys that aged each year and I knew one day I'd have that pleasure - I do not have that now..

I hope my idea is useful to someone, for a number of years I had a unit that is basically built to be EITHER a Sauna or a walk in Wine Cellar. Re: Wine Refrigerators
A Eurocave could be a possibility for me in the future. I’m not sure if if one is worth the cost based the price range of wines I’m drinking. I think a smaller free standing Eurocave that includes humidity control might be 2,700-3k.

Re: Wine Refrigerators
I had a Magic Chef for 11 years. The compressor had gotten real noisy in the past 6 months so I replaced it. Bought a Zephyr under the counter 44 bottle single zone fridge. I'm very pleased with it.
Re: Wine Refrigerators
I bought a hygrometer and tested the Monogram wine fridge. It's around 35%, I think. Definitely not above 40%, that's for sure. I'm not sure how bad that is for storage. I need to find out if Costco sells the smaller Artevino units. Right now I only saw the larger 200/double units for sale.

Re: Wine Refrigerators
I'm remodeling a home and in the process of designing the kitchen, which is rather large (18x16ft). I'm looking at appliances and I'm having trouble selecting an appropriate built-in wine cooler (or chiller).
While I'm not a fan of wine coolers (putting alcohol within eyesight encourages you to drink more often), the scale of level of the kitchen might warranty such an amenity. In fact, it might be conspicuous by it's absence.
Reading online reviews has left me bewildered....sites like Amazon and Sears have just a handful of reviews per model and at least one person will complain that the product died in 12 months (regardless of manufacturer).
Consumer Reports also seems to have just started covering this appliance and doesn't have many choices.
Those of you that have built-in, under-the-counter wine coolers, which manufacturer/model did you choose and how is it in terms of performance, energy usage, noise and reliability?
Thanks!

Re: Wine Refrigerators
Found a new, unused Artevino III with a small ding in the side for $800 at a nearby electronics recycling shop. Bought it, then as it's being unloaded off the truck by the delivery guys this morning, it lurches off the dolly and smashes on the pavement, destroying the door. Unbelievable. Back to the Craigslist grind...

Re: Wine Refrigerators
We love our Avallon single zone under-cabinet. You can fit burgundy bottles if they aren't ridiculously huge and can store four bottles of bubbly on the bottom shelf if you alternate neck in, neck out. You can't hear it running at all and it does have a compressor. Very well built. Stay away from the thermo-electric coolers.Glen Wilder wrote: ↑November 1st, 2019, 1:25 am

Re: Wine Refrigerators
I have two fridges.
I started with a CWR461DZ EdgeStar 46 Bottle Built-In Dual Zone Wine Cooler. It's pretty nice. However the shelves don't come out smoothly (no rollers) and the slats on the wood are wide, so that if you have anything other than a standard Bordeaux bottle, you have to remove a shelf to get things to fit. So not really 46 bottles
I also recently acquired a used SubZero (https://www.subzero-wolf.com/sub-zero/w ... ne-storage)
This is a great fridge, although expensive. The shelves slide well and have a metal rod like holder so pretty much everything fits and you put different sizes in next to each other no problem.

Re: Wine Refrigerators
New-ish to the boards here but thought I'd share:
https://www.subzero-wolf.com/sub-zero/w ... ler/iw-30r
We re did our kitchen this past year and its a very large kitchen with a "walk in butler pantry". the MSRP is expensive but my wife really wanted a fridge for other beverages for parties - stuff like beer, seltzer, water, etc. Getting 2 under counter fridges, one for wine and one for other beverages, built in would have been maybe half the price or so of the SubZero. But then we'd need extra cabinets, extra countertop material, etc. So yes the SZ was still more expensive but the overall price compared to 2 smaller units shrank a bit. Plus a glass door beverage fridge can look messy with various cans/bottles/labels, etc. so now those are hidden behind paneled pull out drawers.
End of day, we paneled it to match and its really a beautiful piece that everyone comments on. No one really realizes the two pull out draws are refrigerated and its a nice touch and a very classy overall looking "beverage station" vs just a wine fridge.

Re: Wine Refrigerators
Thanks. Actually when you consider it holds 86 bottles of wine and 5-6 dozen cans and even more in bottles it’s probably close to 3 under cabinet units really closing in on the cost factor for built ins.

Anyone have experience with Dunavox long term storage cabinets? Looking at buying their 190 bottle free standing model.

Re: Wine Refrigerators
I have two 55 bottle refrigerators - one came with the house I bought and the other I had before. All I can say is, I never thought I would fill one 55 bottle up, but the two are almost full!
The house came with a kitchenaid - surprisingly very good and consistent temperatures. I forget the brand of the one I bought from beverage factory - maybe allavino ( I'm traveling right now). It's also great, and bought it for 800 or so.

Anyone have experience with this WE fridge available at Costco on sale at the moment?

I have been searching for a 300+ bottle fridge at a decent price point and would love to get a few suggestions.

No experience with those, but I purchased 2 x Artevino III from Costco and couldn't be happier.

Danby.
I have this model:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing ... 17&sr=8-12
It's more expensive now than it was 15 years ago, but through two owners and a half dozen plus moves it's still going strong. Highly recommend.

I don’t think they sell those any longer. I found another one this morning which appears to be a newer model:Troy Stark wrote: ↑March 9th, 2020, 8:17 am No experience with those, but I purchased 2 x Artevino III from Costco and couldn't be happier.

Re: Wine Refrigerators
Thanks for looking around. I just ordered this one. 300 bottles for less than $7 per bottle plus electricity. I just got tired of the Craigslist grind and I like the idea of white glove delivery.A.Khanna wrote: ↑March 8th, 2020, 7:15 pm Anyone have experience with this WE fridge available at Costco on sale at the moment?
