Top Chef Masters

She never eats a thing…has nothing of any value to say. I have no clue as to why she is on the show! This may sound naive, but who is she? How did she become a “celebrity?” [bleh.gif]

Seriously…

Cheers!

Kelly Choi (born February 7, 1976) is a Korean-American, multiple Emmy-nominated television personality on NYC TV, one of the the broadcast stations of NYC Media Group, the television and media network owned by the City of New York. Choi is the host of Bravo TV’s Top Chef spin-off, Top Chef Masters, which premiered on June 10, 2009.[1]

Born as Young Choi in Seoul, she was a pre-schooler when she moved to the United States with her family. Growing up in Virginia, Choi received her undergraduate degree from the College of William and Mary, and her Master’s from Columbia University in New York.[2] Before her graduate studies, Choi, who stands at 5 ft 10 in. tall, was a model with Ford Models and also worked as a VJ for MTV Korea.

Choi made the transition to New York area television by creating and hosting Freckles, a local entertainment and lifestyle program carried by the cable channel Plum TV, which is seen in The Hamptons in Long Island’s Suffolk County. Choi was eyed for the starring role in the documentary series called Secrets of New York.

Choi co-produced the first season and hosted all eighteen episodes of Secrets of New York, most of which were nationally distributed by PBS. Choi also created and produced Eat Out NY, another NYC TV program in which she starred as the host/guide to the city’s restaurants. She has also appeared in numerous other specials and programs at NYC TV such as hosting the James Beard Award, as well as various other food and fashion-driven programs.

In 2006, as part of a unique content-sharing arrangement between NYC TV and NBC’s flagship station WNBC, Eat Out NY[3] and Kelly Choi became popular fixtures of the Tri-State Region’s noontime viewing.

Choi also has appeared on the TV Guide Channel as an entertainment reporter. She has also been a guest on the The Martha Stewart Show, and is an occasional guest correspondent on the Maury Povich Show. She has also appeared as a judge on the Food Network’s Iron Chef America.

Kelly Choi has received multiple Emmy nominations from the New York chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.[4][5][

I loved it when my Champagne Buddy Sang Yoon dissed the deconstructed “burger soup”. So much fail!

I love that Boberto said ‘so much fail’

That soup burger was dumb. Sorry, she’s a wonderful chef, but you could tell from a mile away that she was going to lose the quickfire.

Of course Zooey dechanel is Vegan, and Glueten intolerent. Unreal. How do you eat anything???

The dishes they made though looked fantastic.

Michael Chiarello is quickly becoming the guy to beat. He always seems to come through. I’m excited to have dinner at his restaurant next week. My wife thinks he’s cute. In a related story, my wife is no longer coming to dinner with me at his restaurant next week…

Even though Anita’s ‘soup burger’ wasn’t here smartest move, I am glad she skated by and made it to the next round; I think she’s had a stronger performance throughout the competition than Art has.

Maybe I’m just more intrigued by her food in general. Don’t get me wrong, I love me some good soul food, but I live in the south and can get that in a lot of places.

Oh Dale, repping your asian thug-ness. I can’t wait.

I know, what the hell is that all about??? Can’t wait!

That said, I’ve just caught up on the whole season and I like it so far. I think Michael is the Chef to beat, at least from I’ve seen so far. I am really getting into this show and can’t wait for Top Chef Season 6 to start.

Jeeesh Tony…She sure is a busy woman! No wonder she has no time to actually EAT any of the food!! [stirthepothal.gif]

Cheers!

I aim to please…I didn’t know anything about her either, except that she makes funny faces, and eats none of the food…

Yeah, I’ve never been a fan of hers. I saw her a few times on the NYC channel (25 I think) and always found her a bit cold and off-putting, and the fact that she never seems to taste the food isn’t a good sign of being invested in this show either.

Yeah, this season is really starting to get good. WTF is wrong with Dale??? That guy has problems. Can’t wait to see what happens.

you guys wouldn’t understand all the built up anger us Asians have. Roar!

Kelly Choi may have a food show background, and may indeed know quite a bit about food, but whenever they show her on the show, it’s either a reaction shot with no words or her saying “That was so good!” Come on! At least Padma made more insightful comments about the food.

That’s we Asians, Fu. Didn’t you just graduate from law school? [tease.gif]

That’s what editors are for.

It’s basically picking the lesser of the two evils. At least Kelly has a personality. Padma is dull, her vioce is monotone and she’s virtually useless. IMO, Kelly is the much better hostess.

“do you think it’s salty?”
“i think it has too much salt”

that’s about it

Dale - what a punk, and I’m glad that he didn’t get a lot of face time on the show. Am I mistaken, or was he originally on Michael’s team to begin with and then moved to Anita’s team after the incident?

I thought it was hilarious that the prior TC contestants felt insulted that someone didn’t know “who they were”! They are good chefs that were on a freaking reality show! Granted, some of this was directed squarely at Michael, but I also find it hard that they’ve never worked with a Type-A prick in the kitchen before. Suck it up, enjoy your additional 5 minutes of face time on TV and move on. This show isn’t about you.

Anyone notice that Ilan (Season 2) was the only TC “winner” among the group? Seems the rumours about no one wanting to give him a real hand in setting up his own place look to be true.

P.S. Would have loved if Chiarello woulda just punched the crap out of that irritating little prick Dale.
