TN: DaliaMaris Pignul TreVenezie '18....(short/boring)

Tried this unusual wine last night for DinDin:

  1. DaliaMaris Pignul IGP: TreVenezie Pignolo RW (14%; GiulianaImprts/Boulder) Giampaolo Venica/Buttrio 2018: Dark color; strong rather blackberry/boysenberry/black cherry cola bit licorice/pungent lightly floral/perfumed light toasty/oak some Syrha-like/bit Refosco-like very attractive nose; fairly tart/tannic strong blackberry/black cherry/pungent slight floral light toasty/oak bit hot/alcoholic rather rough/rustic quite structured some complex flavor w/ ample chewey tannins; very long/lingering very strong blackberry finish that follows flavor; a big/structured intense fruit red that resembles Syrah more than anything; doesn’t speak of Friuli to any extent; some like a Val d’Aosta Syrah w/o the c-c/peppery character; quite a good big/structured/robust red that needs 3-8 yrs of age. $46.00 (KK)

More deeblesnort from TheBloodyPulpit:

  1. Pignolo is a grape that is native to Friuli. It means “fussy” in Italian which describes its growing character.
    The story is here:
    Pignolo
The DNA on Pignolo is inconclusive & it has no known parentage or ancestors.
Giampaolo Venica is a member of the family that runs the well-known/lauded wnry Venica&Venica.
    His story is told here:
    DaliaMaris
He worked several harvests w/ Jean-Louis Chave in the Rhone, which has influenced his work w/ Pignolo.
Both Sites here are worth reading for the background on his rather rare wine.
