I’ve become a big fan of the #2 universal
I’m probably going to pull the trigger on a pair of the red No 3 and a pair of the champagne glasses. I don’t need more glassware in the house, but this have really piqued my interest. I’ll do a review with a few side by sides when they arrive (likely in a few weeks).
Purchased a set of four of the number 3’s several months back and have yet to pull them out. Have always really enjoyed the original Zalto Universal especially for whites. IMO one of the best all around glasses out there. My everyday glass, as I have come to love, the Gabriel-Glas StandArt.
I bought a two pack of the #3 and find them to be very nice.
The jury is still out as to whether I prefer them over my Zalto BDX glasses, but they are well made and I have no complaints…
If I keep them away from my girlfriend, they should last (she has a knack for breaking my stemware and decanters
)…
Ive been wondering if i should pull the trigger on a 2 pak of the universals. And my parents are good at breaking my glassware!
I thought everyone everyone had decided the Nude Stem Zero was the best. Has something changed?
This looks more similar to a Gabriel Glas Gold than anything Zalto. I like my GGGs for whites and bubbles, but not for red.
I’ll have to look into it a bit more, thanks for sharing!
Order for a pair of No 3 glasses placed today. I’ll report back in a week or so.
Some random thoughts. I really like these for large glasses. I think the traditional shape, at a large size, can feel kind of unwieldy/oversized - where these have a certain poise to them. They are very, very lightweight given their size, and feel delicate, but somehow not fragile. As others have said they sort of have a face only a mother could love, and yet I do find them graceful and attractive. Some other unusual glasses make me wince but these I actually like. If you’re so uncouth as to hold the bowl rather than the stem (I do, sometimes), the “crease” makes a really comfortable spot for your thumb.
A couple of nights ago I poured a 2010 Taurasi into Josephinen 3 alongside Zwiesel Glas Pure Tritan. Nose from the Josephinen might have been just ever so slightly more pronounced, but honestly I couldn’t find any striking difference in the way the marketing suggest. On a few occasions where I’ve compared glasses, I’ve never really noted a huge difference unless it’s comparing a wine glass to a Libbey Gibraltar tumbler.
Last night I considered ordering some more but decided on Glasvin instead - Josephinen will remain just a pair for my wife and I.
Ive been contemplating these stems for a while and have been following this thread. I was wondering if you received the stems yet and what your overall opinion/impression is of them? My go to for cab/Bordeaux glass is the Grassl 1855 and if its a realy young Bordeaux, i may use a Sensory instead.
I bought a pair just for fun but my husband liked them so much he bought two for himself. I had them engraved them with his name so he could be responsible for breaking and or washing!
We have a wide collection of glasses, GG are the got to, but we also use grassl and glasvin. The Josephine reds have been fun for big reds.
I haven’t had a chance to try them yet. Have had a bad streak of luck between sick kids, being sick myself, and a couple of crazy busy weekends, but hoping to use them next weekend. They are giving me the side-eye each time I walk past them. ![]()
