You're cooling your wine all wrong!

Okay folks, has anyone tried this technique?

There’s a bit of truth - if the toilet gets a lot of use, so there is a lot of circulating water around the bottle. But overall it’s pretty silly. And this statement “He now swears by the technique because it cools the wine slowly compared to conventional refrigerators and wine coolers that can damage wine by chilling it too fast.” is just silly.

Best way to chill wine is pretty well established: bucket of ice water, even better if you can keep the water in gentle motion somehow.

I have used that method before in hotels and for beer while in college. I wouldn’t recommend it necessarily, but it works if needed.

A novel approach.
But I don’t buy this nonsense: "wine coolers that can damage wine by chilling it too fast.
Most white wine is recommended served at around 58 degrees. A refrigerator, typically at 40 degrees or below, is too cold and can “burn the wine,” Saums said. "

You can also use your SV machine! Fill container with ice and water, turn SV machine to 32˚and plop your wine / beer/ soda in the ice bath.
of course you don’t want your wine that cold…

Okay, that’s clever.

There’s some awful big assumptions in there about the temp of the water in the city mains. Let me tell you, this won’t work in Phoenix in the summer.

And everybody knows that the right way to cool your wine is with a wet paper towel wrapped around the bottle and then put into the freezer.

This guy says that wine is “supposed to be about fun,” but his rhetoric is exactly the sort of elitist bullshit that makes wine intimidating to many people.
Think your toilet tank isn’t the most hygienic place to chill wine? You idiot, that’s because you’re not rigorously cleaning your toilet tank, like any self-respecting wine lover would.
His bit about the fridge “burning” the wine is so abjectly stupid that I wonder how such a fop is even remotely considered an expert. So, then, any wine which has dry ice added at crush, is cold-stabilized, or held in refrigerated tanks is horribly damaged? I cannot believe they gave this guy recognition, all for the sake of a glorified toilet joke.
