His emphasis on not liking the style.
I find that their Ohligsberger has better acidity than does their Goldtröpfchen. I tend to buy more more Ohligsberger wines from lower Pradikats and Goldtropfchen more from Auslese and above. Their wines are really good in higher acid vintages like 2010, where their Auslese tastes almost like an Eiswein - although their 2010 Ohligsberger Eiswein was heavenly.
Is he required to like it?
To be fair, I haven’t tasted at the Haart estate in several years. Johannes, who took over from his father, Theo, is the winemaker at this VDP estate now. He is a nice guy and has made some very good wines. In the nineties and early aughts, Reinhold Haart was the top address in Piesport and one of the best producers in the Mosel region.
Visiting with Theo was one of the highlights of our trip in late 2003. He had “no time” but spent 90 minutes with us opening bottles and explaining his philosophy/process. It didn’t hurt that the 2002s were excellent, and he also opened a number of older wines.
Glad to see Molitor on a list.
Just want to let you know I planned my Mosel visit this summer based on this list. Went to four but Haart. Had to cancel last minute on Haart to let my kids sleep longer lol.
They were all great and worth going except I didn’t feel much for Selbach.
Thanks!
Spent 3 hours with Theo on a visit in 1998. An incredibly generous and nice man, and, as you say, the top adress in Piesport at the time.
So true. I’ve had similar experiences with Theo. As I said, it was the top address in Piesport back then.
I love their wines today, as well. Absolutely love their 2010s and they made fabulous wines in 2015, 2019, 2020 and 2021.
As I mentioned before, I haven’t been back to Piesport to taste at Haart in several years.

Keller
A.J Adam, Egon Müller and Willi Schaefer come in just below Keller all within a bottle or two. 29 separate producers but very top heavy. Almost 80% of my German wine is from the makers listed above.
I’m very curious in what way(s) you feel the 2010 Haart Auslese tastes like an eiswein.
Rich, lots of acid, very clean.
