I had posted this a few months back, but thought it relevant to share here. Really nice book from an early 80s exhibition. Good copies still available through many outlets.
Personally, I find some of the labels are quite unappealing until I discovered a bit more about the artist or put the work into the context of the time. I learned this lesson when attending exhibitions where aesthetically I wasn’t drawn to certain artist or work, but diving deeper through a docent tour or other references have made me appreciate the art much more.
I think it’s similar to wine in discovering how different vintages were affected by the season or how terroir influences the wine making.
