Your defining bottle of Bordeaux, Burgundy, Rhone, etc

Now I really want to try it! Reasonably priced too.:wine_glass:

Red Burgundy - Truchot Clos de la Roche. Alternatives - anything from Mugneret-Gibourg or Hudelot-Noellat.
White Burgundy - Ramonet or Bernard Moreau. Also, Bouchard Meursault Perrieres
Chablis - Moreau-Naudet or Christian Moreau
Bordeaux - Haut Brion, Leoville las Cases, or at a less expensive level, D’Issan or Meyney.
White Bordeaux - Domaine de Chevalier
Sauternes - Yquem
Barsac - Climens
California Cabernet - Ridge MB and Mount Eden.
German Kabinett or Spatlese - Maximin Grunhauser Abtsberg or Zilliken Rausch
German sweeter - Reinhold Haart or Schloss Lieser
Alsace - Trimbach Cuvee Fred and Mann Sclossberg

Germany classic - JJ Prum Wehlener Sonnenuhr Auslese
Oregon Pinot Noir - Evesham Wood Cuvee J

Sonoma Pinot Noir - Hanzell
Napa Merlot - Pahlmeyer
Sonoma(ish) Zin - Scherrer
Napa Zin - Brown
Oregon Pinot - Thomas
Napa Red Blend - Prisoner. I’ll defend this, sort of, in that it kinda personifies the big, blowsy, easy-drinking, widely-available, generally crowd-pleasing bottle of Napa red wine that typifies (“defines”) the region, which, to me, was the prompt

Having had this once, If this is what typifies Napa then i want nothing to do with that region.

I’m not sure that was the ask. If so, the defining Bourgogne is not La Tâche, it’s probably a 8 euro Crémant de Bourgogne or a 6 euro Bourgogne Rouge from a large négoce.

I’m not sure your other picks also follow that same logic. Do they? (I don’t know much about American wine)

I suppose I’m thinking about the prompt a little differently - to me, Prisoner defines Napa red wine in the broadest sense possible, rather than what defines Napa red in the mind/palate of the avergage Wine Berserker/wine nerd. I admit I’m being a little challening here.

I think it’s a little unfair to compare Prisoner to an under-10 euro wine. It’s objectively a higher-quality wine than, say, a Stella Rosa (which is more in that price range).

Understood. I think the OP topic is open enough and I see where you’re coming from. But at the same time, i think it depends if it’s based on either pre-conceived notions, clichés or simple personal preferences. Most answers will be found true with that premise. I saw it as an open question about personal preferences and I don’t think Prisoner is yours. But if we’re trying to define the masse’s preference or the most representative of the clichéd view, then, I’m off track.

One could also say “defining” a region would be to set a standard others are compared to.

To me in Napa that’s 2013 Harlan Estate.
