Let’s say you were facing the guillotine tomorrow morning.

Your captors granted you one last bottle of wine to enjoy in its entirety the night before.

You get to savor this bottle over a few hours as you looked back at your life, your drinking history, and prepared to face The Maker in the morning.

Which wine are you going to choose and why?

White, red, sparkling, rosè (please no!), dessert?

Something sentimental? Something tried and true? Or something rare/exorbitant that you’ve always dreamed of? Something contemplative? Or something celebratory?

I might go for a properly aged Mugneret Gibourg Clos Vougeot …

Can I interject? One that you own and one you desire. For me, 2004 Allemande Renard I own and 1957 DRC Romanee Contee I desire.

2008 Rayas, for several reasons. I can’t think of many other wines that have such uniformly positive takes in the sense of “this is great right now”; I have one; I haven’t tasted the wine before; and I have another one in case I’m still thirsty.
