Started my coffee advent calendar today. Today’s coffee is from Colombia. Each day has this card with a QR code. Below is the link.

Wow. It’s completely over the top nerdy. Directions on grind, amount, temperature, how many seconds bloom, filter type, etc.

Good coffee, but I did everything wrong.

If the coffee was good, then you did nothing wrong!

these guides are great, but they are simply guides. Just taking a look, their recipe is a bog standard multi pour, and for sure not the only way to brew that coffee (they also sell Kalita waves and use them in their shops, strange coincidence?).

How was it?

Absolutely terrible, as expected. I do believe that the coffee was ground in the current decade, however

I’ll steal from pirates of the Caribbean and say they aren’t rules only guidelines lol

I bet they would not be happy to know that I am using a Keurig brewer and a blade grinder.

that is certainly making me feel a certain way…

Respectfully, if you can afford a $220 coffee game, you can afford a proper grinder!

If when making these coffees, you are experiencing different flavors and enjoying them, just know that upgrading to a quality steel burr grinder will increase those flavors by many orders of magnitude. The grinder is single most important tool in brewing coffee outside of the coffee itself.

Zach tells you no lie.
I’ve been into good coffee since the late 80s. Biggest game changer beyond good beans is the grinder. Can’t believe how long I waited to really upgrade. I don’t think you need to go all out, but spend more than you think is reasonable and then you’ll likely find it was a very good investment.

Time to replace my inexpensive hand burr grinder, depicted in the very first post of this thread . Very occasional use. Thinking of this one. Comments welcome.

I have a chesnut C2 that isnt my favorite. Planning on getting a 1Zspresso K series. It doesnt grind fine enough for my liking and isnt large enough to grind the 30g of beans I want for a 2 cup brew

I never had the C2 but understand there were improvements in several ways on the 3spro. I don’t think I would have bought the C2 even though I am sure it’s far superior to a blade.

I have been using 1Zpresso K Ultra for a couple years and very satisfied. And while I have success with it on an espresso grind, it is a serious workout. Generally using it for pour over.

Echoing the love for 1zpresso - they make fantastic grinders. My first good grinder was a jx pro (now called something else) and I still use it when I travel.

Perfect I was planning on using it for 90% pour over and 10% espresso so i don’t mind the extra workout every once in a while
