Your Best Experiences in Burgundy?

I’ve only ever sat inside. It’s so cool. It’s like eating in your French grandmother’s country house. Except with heavy metal posters, world class food, and killer wine. And pigs and chickens outside.

This type of intercultural mixing is what gives me hope for the 21st century!

Has anyone taken this bike route from Beaune to nearby villages for tasting visits and/or lunch?

Our best experiences have come from chartering the barge, Apres Tout for a six night sail on the Burgundy canals. The barge owners, Rory and Caroline Macrae arranged winery visits along the way. On our last charter we visited Domaine Margueritte Carillon, Domaine Michel Arcelain, Pommard, Domaine Drouhin-Laroze, Maison Louis Jadot, and had a tasting from several producers at Domaine de Cromey. We enoyed the trip so much, we are repeating it in 2027, but with a few new yet to be determine stops along the way.

I just rode this route just to do it. I rode out to Montrachet, and then turned around and rode back. Besides the fact that the rented bicycle sucked, it was great! There are several rather steep sections around Meursault and Volnay, so if you’re not a cyclist, an e-bike might be better.

Thanks, Rick. I used to bike a lot, but at age 75 if there are hills the e-bike will be our ticket. It might be enjoyable to combine the cycling with a village lunch and a tasting visit at a friendly domaine.

My husband and I rented a houseboat from Le Boat for our honeymoon and did the canals of Burgundy. We got to play Skipper and Gilligan going through the locks. It was super fun and took no experience. We were able to go to farmer’s markets and cook on the boat.

Jim, This is the place where I rented the bike I used. While they had a limited number of hybrids (what I rented), they had a lot of e-bikes. They’re located just west of the city center in the Parc de la Bouzaise.

Thanks, Rick. Enticing photo on their web page!

I had a great tasting Jean Grivot and Henri Gouges.
