Yet another "Best Beers" list

At least there are more recognizable beers in this one. Sorry Brian, your beloved Racer 5 didn’t make it. neener

list obviously flawed

Definitely flawed from a world-wide perspective. It looks like they elected the list from beers available in the author’s location.

imagine how happy I am though… I’ve never had ANY of these. Flawed list or not, as a relative beer novice, I’m thrilled to have a shopping list for this weekend. Guess I"m headed to best beer store, Whole Foods and not BevMo?

No Alaskan Smokef Porter? Pffft!

whaddya mean “Pffft!”? They have Schenkerla, the real thing. [tease.gif]

on the whole, as a list of beers one should try, it’s pretty good; there’s only a couple beers on there that I would advise against trying … check that, they’re all worth trying, as opinions can differ.

You guys didn’t tell me how much money this stuff costs! That first one on the list, the Roquefort was like 7.50 for a 12oz!! Maybe because I was at Whole Foods?

This is as bad as the wine habit. I hid the receipt from my wife!

No that is a pretty standard price. was that the Rochefort 10? if so that is a pretty big beer to jump right into. You’ll see why it’s only 12oz. I think the ABV is something like 12. [welldone.gif]

guess I’m having that last then.

I’ve only had nine of these but it was nice to see HUB Organic Lager on the list. Always the brew I start with when I visit Portland.

That Russian Riv Supplication was way weird.
Pliny is splendid, probably obviously, but I’d never had it before.

North Coast Old Rasputin would have to be a candidate.

They did? I didn’t see it. I guess you would only want one smoked beer on a top 25 list, so I guess I can forgive the omission.

Hmmm, i don’t know about that. It’s an outstanding beer but it’s not even the best in it’s category. Victory Storm King, Alesmith Speedway Stout. Deschutes Abyss, and Great Divide Yeti are all better made examples in my humble opinion. I find old rasputin slightly coarse in comparison.

Roquefort 10 is the biggest beer that I think is really world class. Not that I’ve tried them all. But Roquefort 10 is, IMHO, fucking great, even if it pushes the boundaries for me. I can work through a Roquefort 8 a lot easier.

It’s not my #1, but it’s in my top 5, and I think it’s a fine choice for the top of a list like that.

Haven’t had a lot of the beers on that list, FWIW, but I wouldn’t anticipate liking a lot of them.

Lately I’ve been drinking a ton of Pilsners and Boont Amber with the occasional Belgian at night…

No WESTMALLE TRIPEL? - flawed poll -

They did list Whole Foods as the best beer store & one just opened in town and I checked it out yesterday. Damn nice cooler full of 22 ouncers. For a buck corkage (capage?) you can pick one and they’ll pour it in their tap room.
