Agree. I think if I had to name the 5 top Yarra wineries it would probably be:
- Mount Mary
- Yarra Yering
- Giant Steps
- Oakridge
- Levantine Hill

Yes it should provide a good young example of the wine…
The 2016 Yarra Yerring #2 that is!
Thanks so much for your help! I managed to source the following for my Yarra Valley orientation. Please let me know if you notice any glaring gaps.
It seems to me like most of these wines are a bit difficult to find via wine-searcher and winebid, especially in older vintages. Are most folks ordering these wines from outside the US, directly from the wineries in recent vintages, or some other approach within the US?
I think you have done well Ryan. Should be avery interesting tasting.
Seems like a good cross-section of varieties you have there! I can’t help thinking that a Yarra Cabernet / Cabernet blend might be a worthy addition if you need to increase the bottle count. Many producers to choose from, including those you have already selected.
A Yarra Valley Nebbiolo from Luke Lambert or similar could also provide an interesting counterpoint, or a Rhone white such as the Viognier from Soumah (recently enjoyed).
Thanks! I’ll see if I can source some of those. Are there vintages you would recommend on them for drinking now?
If you are looking for other info around Aussie wines, the different drop team makes some great content on youtube, my favorites are their “great debates” where they do a few wine taste off with different brackets, but they generally highlight a lot of cool aussie producers. There are a few places that have some good small aussie producers, Vine street imports a lot of my favorites, but Aussie wines are really intereting and diverse imo.
