WTSO Finds/Misses Today?

I bit on the Janzen. $40 per seems like a good deal.

That 97 Burgess is pretty tempting for $25… probably won’t last long.

hah! was gone before I could even type that post.

Is it just me or do you find that the higher the Johnny Newman score, the longer the wine stays up for sale?

Who is that guy anyway? Is he the Wilfred Wong of WTSO?

sort of, but i don’t think he actually works for them like the ww/bevmo relationship

I was surprised the Merode lasted as long as it did. Grand Cru from 2008 for $55?

Also got 8 bottles of the 97 Burgess.

06 Seavey for $65? Be still my beating heart.

I just checked, 62 bottles in 32 different orders and never had an issue. I purchased 12 of the Charlie’s from 06, 6 from the 05 and 8 from the 07 with no issue. Best deal ever…almost.

Ditto. They ship in plain cardboard, though, so you need to go air freight in the summer . . . or just buy in spring and fall.

Would agree. Never tracked the numbers, but I have had more than a few.

Not I. 47 corks popped or Stelvins unscrewed, over three dozen distinct orders, not a bad bottle or seeper yet,

No warm-weather orders, and I live in NYC so they don’t spend long on the truck.

Anybody going to pick up the Elu 6 liter? Funny, the description says: UNIT SIZE 750.00 ml

Overall I’d say YAWN; only one purchase (and one shut out) for me. Berserker Day is much more entertaining and exciting.

Win!

I’d have to agree. I only picked up the 03 Latour RSV.

I’ve ordered a few times and never had a problem with the transaction or the bottles - but I’m in CT and they are in NJ, so it takes always only takes two days.

Wish I had caught the Charlie’s Patch and Lilly’s Garden (what did that go for by the way?). But I was in the air most of the day. I will console myself with a nice Riesling and toes in the sand today though. [cheers.gif]

Very surprised to see that my seeper experience was, largely, not experienced by others. More frustrating than that was that I opened ANOTHER one last night … the 2008 Bardessono Petite Sirah. Shipped to me during winter. Cork seeped red all the way to the top, with a little bit visible on the top of the cork before I even inserted my corkscrew. It did not leak past the capsule or push the cork up, and the wine tastes fine, but still, I cannot in good faith cellar the remaining bottles in that shipment. So frustrating!

Even though I had my summer WTSO orders pile up and then all ship during the fall, I am admittedly incurring a greater risk of heat exposure than someone living on the East Coast who orders from them. This is why I have started to gravitate towards Lot 18 lately – all the wines ship direct from the winery, meaning they didn’t make a trip to New Jersey before I ordered them, and then they also ship direct from the winery to me (California to California). Much less risk.

Sure, the prices aren’t as competitive as WTSO (unless you participated in the recent voucher bonanza), I do end up paying sales tax with Lot 18, and there aren’t as many different wines featured as WTSO is able to power through in any given day, but this many instances of heat exposure is a showstopper for me. I’m bummed – if you’re willing to sift through the high volume of emails they send, there are some really great deals on WTSO.

I will give a cheer for WTSO. I have had no seepers, no leakers, no issues with shipments. If I have made any purchases during warm shipping months, I can easily schedule a shipping day for a cooler month. I have also experienced great customer service - prompt and considerate to me as a customer. A recent wrong vintage purchase was handled exceptionally well by WTSO.
Sure they offer many wines that are an easy pass, but occassionally they come up with some gems at good prices.
