Its been a pretty good year so far.

Red - 1990 Haut Brion. WoTY by a country mile. Honorable mentions - 1999 Musar and 1997 Jaboulet La Chapelle (well stored bottles of the latter are fantastic).

White - 2007 F. Cotat Sancerre Les Monts Damnes. I thought its 10th anniversary would be a good time to open my first bottle but this will cruise through its 20th birthday without breaking a sweat. Honorable mention - Fevre 2008 Preuses, my last bottle of 6 was a bit arthritic but other bottles were delicious, if young.

Sparking - 2000 Clos des Goisses.

Sweet - 1989 Chateau Guiraud

Sparkling: 1990 Taittinger Collection “Corneille”
I think it’s basically CdC but I’m not sure. Mushroomy on open. Rich, honeyed, touch of yeast. Generous, weighty, savory in the mouth. Thrilling lemony nervosite augmented by fine mousse. Finished long

Red: 1985 Guy Castagnier Clos de la Roche
Ordered half a glass to taste at RN74; they poured a full glass and told me they wouldn’t charge me. Maybe that made it taste better [wink.gif]. Sweet dark plum, striking impression of hoisin sauce, wisp of something higher toned at the end. Some mineral and a touch of funk. Concentrated & intense on palate balanced with refreshing and clean acidity

Discovery: 2004 Louise Brison Champagne
Shockingly good for $50 from K&L

Chalk it up to my unrealistic expectations, but I’ve not had much luck with this one :frowning:

Interestingly, the time I preferred the 89, I brought the 90. Kind of analogous. But, they are both really good and one cannot go wrong with either.

Only one choice for me , a clear winner in best wine this year

2013 Bedrock exposition #2

from our dinner at n/naka? that bottle was outstanding.

red: 01 la tache
white: toss up between 14 ferren frei road chard or 08 coche dury cc

[cheers.gif]

indeed, that bottle.

White - 1978 Marc Bredif Vouvray
Red - 1961 Monfortino
Discovery - Duke’s Magpie Hill Reserve Riesling (yep, a bit slow on that one given my location)

Fixed for clarity, since Charlie was being modest.

Red -
1989 Haut Brion,
2010 SQN Stockholm Syndrome Syrah,
1989 Beaucastel

White - nothing yet

Sparkling -
1988 Krug,
1996 Salon

Sweet -
2001 Yquem,
1977 Taylor,
1992 Muller Catoir Musbacher Eselshaut Rieslaner TBA

those Ferren Chards are really good.

That is a shame, Yao, and I hope you have a chance to try this one again. I’ve only had it once from half, but it is the only perfect wine I’ve ever consumed.

Glad to see lots of people chiming in

Mike

I fail to see why a half bottle of wine should be rated higher than 50 points.

This was the year I discovered what Chinon was through a bottle of 1985 Olga Raffault.

Sweet: 2001 d’Yquem X 2
White: 2013 Araujo Sauvignon Blanc Eisele Vineyard
Red: 2012 Outpost True Vineyard Immigrant
Bubbles: 1996 Dom Perignon

Discovery: Bookwalter

That’s a great Chinon. Look for good bottles of1989 and 1990 too from that period. There have been library releases so they should be around. But maybe you’ve already discovered all this.

Commie.

Right–of course. That’s what I meant. Must’ve gotten distracted. Oh wait. Who said “perfect” was 100 points? [grin.gif]

WOTY: Tie - ‘06 Taittinger Comte and ‘06 disgorgement NV Krug Grande Cuvée
Discovery: Enfield Antle Vineyard Pinot Noir
