World's best tasting note

From cellar tracker:

Tasted by vinoceros on 9/25/2009: Served at a party. Didn’t get a taste. (286 views)

How many points?

Didnt state. maybe it was too far away from him in the room.

Funny, I have TN just like that. Actually… all of my tasting notes are like that.

I just did one like that too.

WOTN?

When people go to drink a bottle in CellarTracker they can post a public tasting note and/or create a private consumption note to attach to the bottle. In the current, cluttered user interface people occasionally conflate these two concepts. I view that as MY failure and not the user’s failure. It will be improved when my redesign comes along. Next to each note, if you are logged in, YOU can click a REPORT button to let me know. This makes it very easy for me to move the note, and if there are MANY examples like this from the same user I usually send them a personal note to help explain things and educate them to avoid the same mistake in the future. (In the future user interface the REPORT link will be there for everyone, guests and registered users, although it will ask you to register/login. Hopefully this will raise discoverability of THIS feature.)

It is worth noting that, had you clicked the REPORT link, it would have taken you 2 seconds and would have helped to cull down one note from the 1.15 million to make the database a little more helpful for everyone. Or you could spend 45 seconds and come over here with a mocking post instead.

FYI, I tracked down this note and cleaned it up, since it clearly bothers you. This user had 486 notes, and I just cleaned up 14 with various errors of this ilk, so a personal email from me to them is in order to keep things cleaner for the future.

And sorry, I am cranky today. I’m away from Seattle, my toes are cold, I’m drinking crap coffee, the Wifi is spotty, and I have a 6-hour plane ride ahead with two little kids…

Eric knows I do plenty of reporting - normally we have a brief chat about it after I do, but not when he’s this cranky. neener

With this, however, I think it is fun to discuss, and I still wonder if it was WOTN

Todd, yes you do plenty of reporting and I appreciate that. And I am even appreciative of a report here, as I am on this board a lot. I would just like to encourage people to help out and report anything (pretty-please by using the REPORT link next to the note) that clearly looks misplaced, hokey etc.

Oh, and the author let me know that the wine was in fact the WOTN and was served with Jay Miller in attendance and rated 102 points by him, double blind. [thankyou.gif]

Good, now shape up and get rid of that sour mood!

But you are all going to LOVE the new UI. Eric walked me through it a few days ago and it is really incredibly well thought out - the designer gets major kudos for user experience and visual design. And Eric’s done some very cool stuff with the code to add polish that’s useful vs just pretty.

WTF man?!?!?! How did my Ringland make it to that party and score 102???

Eric’s only mad because it was his post. neener

Thanks Rick, that was a ton of fun taking you through it.

You need to seriously chillout. I just thought it was funny that someone took the time to post a note on a wine they didnt drink. Sorry Im not an expert on you system. I have no idea why you are taking this so seriously or personally.

Eric,

I was unaware of that. I’m going to be posting some champagne notes on CT in the next day or two. When finished I will use the report link to give you a heads up on several champagnes that having tasting notes that don’t exist and/or haven’t been released (and I highly doubt they were tasted at the House)

Can you reread what I wrote? Did you miss the part where I apologized in advance for being cranky?

You are right that I do need to chillout, but I have been cranking 110+ hour weeks on CT for 3 months running to fix stuff like this. Again, apologies. And I know it is fun to make fun of lameness, and there is plenty on my site. But all I ask is that you also help out by clicking the one little link. It really only takes about 2 seconds and is greatly appreciated by everyone.

BTW, again, I am sorry if my tone was off. I am human. It is challenging to support 90,000 people alone. When my patience is stretched, well I can be prickly. I am not taking this personally. I do take this seriously, as I view this as an example of failure on my part (or the part of my website), and I don’t like to fail no matter how big or small. In this case the user was checking a bottle out of their cellar and mistook a private/consumption note for a public/tasting-note. Details matter. I am a very anal, precise person. I also appreciate a good mocking, and this was a mock worthy episode. However, I am also asking for help, from everyone, to make things continually better.

That is all. I hope you understand and do not take this personally, but I would also expect someone who starts a clearly sarcastic thread to be able to take a little criticism. Well maybe everyone except Posner… (He says ducking, and Daniel I am just kidding…)

Many thanks Ray. In a few cases we have some notes from Brad Baker attached to some unreleased stuff, but I am sure a lot of it is just people misentering things. We are trying to do some bubble cleanup with Brad’s help…

So Im looking at a tasting note at random and I don’t see a report link:

1991 Coche-Dury Corton-Charlemagne, France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru - CellarTracker" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Not sure what you are talking about.

You assume that there is some feature that everyone knows about, but I have no idea what you are talking about.

Well your “criticism” is rediculous. I just posted a funny tasting note. It had nothing to do with your site. The fact that you think its something worthy of criticism is evedence you still have some chilling out to do. Maybe Im the one blowing things out of proportion now but your additude is pretty strange. If it was a tasting note posted on this board instead of CT do you think Todd would be freaking out on me?
