Arv. What is that musical device that shows up in your threads? I am sure it is something quite common but I have never seen one.
I had a mag of 1982 La Dominique that we drank in 2011. It did seem a bit glossy to me.

Itās a Google device from their Home / Nest collection. Itās a few years old so Iām not sure what the current analog to this one is. We have various iterations of these (mostly Miniās) all over the house since at one point they were very cheap ($25) in some attempt to compete against Amazon Alexa. We probably use 1% of its potential.
I am a little curious as to the process that changed you from buying the modern stuff to becoming a traditional drinker. Was there a Eureka (heureka) moment?
It wasnāt that my palate changed, itās that Bordeaux changed. Right underneath me, and I did not know it. I was on a hiatus from wine collecting for about 4 to 5 years when I focused on a few other pursuits and life changes (new baby, law partnership, etc), I came back to the fanfare of the 2005 Bordeaux vintage, and Robert Parker was waxing philosophically about all of these great wines from St Ems. Many of these wines were quite affordable and I bought quite a bit based on my trust in his palate based on my prior experience with him. And then came the 2007 Chateaunuef du Pape vintage, which I think he declared the best vintage ever from any region. I bought a lot of of those as well. Bought blindly on trust. Shortly thereafter I started to put two and two together, that something was off, and I started making my own decisions. Fortunately, at the same time, I was still buying many of the wineries that I adored from my prior experiences before my hiatus, like dāArmailhac, Lanessan, Clerc Milon, Leoville Barton, La Louviere, Lanessan, et al. And thatās pretty much where Iām at now. I started down the path of Bordeaux in the mid 90s with a pretty traditional palate and thatās exactly what I have right now.
Thanks Arv. I am tired of using my phone for everything. A friend of ours has a Tidal device with a volume dial. I miss the gear.
