WineSpies.com (Wine Spies) Deal Discussion thread

This wording they use in the email makes it appear that it is intended for account holders who haven’t ordered in quite a while. This doesn’t apply to me since I buy about a case a month on average and the code worked when I used it very shortly after reading the email. I wouldn’t hold this against WS, but it would be fair and right for them to at least email a new code to all who notified them about the failed code.

Anyone know anything about today’s email - 2023 Pangloss Chardonnay. $19 for a Chardonnay made by Erich Bradley @erichbradley sounds tempting.

I have not had that wine but purchased it because Erich is the winemaker. A no brainer in my opinion.

Friends of ours who are in the Pangloss wine club took us to the tasting room last year. The wines were…fine, and the 2022 chardonnay was among those we tasted. For $19, yeah, I expect that the 2023 will be just fine.

Easy Pass at this price point and vintage.

So going stealth lets them drop the price from 199 to 195 in the worst wine economy ever? It looks like I’ve paid as much as 225 for patrimony in the past but that was four years ago. I guess people really love a surprise.

Not enough of a discount I think vs other reputable retailers to pull the trigger. Looks like the 2022 is available around $225. Vintage does not bother me, as I’ve mentioned in the Last Bottles thread (maybe here as well). It is a good wine.

WineSpies prices are not really discounted anymore. It clearly seems like their business model has turned into the locker hold and the free shipping. Which is a nice to have but… if I can walk to my local retailer and find what they are offering 2 bucks more expensive, why use WS?

Yeah, I pretty much only use WS now for hard to find wines at some level of discount. The Mythical Albariño, for example. You’re not going to find that anywhere.

I use it as an inexpensive way to try new wines for a decent price. I skip 95% of the offers they give

This combined with free storage and shipping makes it a great way to explore. If you think the deals suck, the L’Envolee Cab was up and better than berserker pricing. You have to be selective as you mentioned but it’s foolish to say I won’t use it unless you want to be the person who will only buy from winery direct small families and your local privately owned wine store. If that’s you, then definitely, it’s the wrong site.

Also who else is shaking their tail feather for Caymus above list price? I’m only amazed that they must do it because it sells.

Anyone ever had a Revik Sauvignon Blanc? This looks interesting……

I thought it seemed like a good bet, so I went for it.
In the order notes, I specified “please ship immediately.“
Spoiler alert: they shipped immediately (take a hint, Last Bottle).
I think anyone that picked this up will be happy with it at the price.
Definitely skews AFWE-adjacent. Bright lemon, mineral, a bit saline. No detectable oak influence. I’m sure this will hold just fine for quite a while. Total winner at the price.

Is anyone here on the Wine Spies Facebook page that can share either the access code, or the lineup for tomorrow?

I scrolled through—and it’s nice that they let you do that ahead of time. It’s as advertised—odds and ends leftover from previous offers.
But if you missed out or want to re-up on something there may be an opportunity. Prices seem the same as previous offers, although I can’t say that for certain across the board.
