Is anyone going for the 8 bottle mystery case? I emailed them asking if the wines are also for sale on their site as I don’t want more wine I may have already ordered (or didn’t order for some reason.) I’m hoping that the case has at least some rarely discounted, expensive wines that aren’t sold on their site or other sites. It’s a big investment in money and cellar space so I want to make sure I’m getting unique wines before committing.
Personally, I’d save my money and space for Berserker Day. Maybe go back to WineSlash on Saturday if you’re still interested.
I expect you can be pretty confident that they are wines that are otherwise for sale on their site. Doesnt hurt to ask though . . . Let us know what they say.
You’re very likely right about that though they threw us a bone in their write up by implying that there are some bottles that are being sold in the case under the radar to protect the wineries. I’ll let you know their response; nothing from them as of now.
That should be a blanket rule this time of year. But I’ve had very good dealings with Wineslash and would buy from them again for sure.
I got a response from WS about the mystery case:
All eight bottles included in this case are currently available individually on WineSlash; there are no exclusive or unavailable labels. We keep the specific lineup a mystery to preserve our special pricing, but you can rest assured you’ll receive eight premium domestic reds, mostly Cabernet and Cab‑based blends, that are all part of our existing catalog.
What it looks like then is that there is a higher discount on the wines by buying the case than individually. I’ll pass as I usually don’t buy more than 1 bottle of a pricey wine unless it’s a huge deal.
Now waiting for my first berzerker day tomorrow.
A week or so ago, WS listed 2023 Krutz Family Cellars Beckstoffer Vineyard George III Cabernet Sauvignon Napa for $55. I bought a bottle based on some positive chatter on the Wine Spies thread; it seemed that there were no ratings yet for this vintage. I made a quick decision to buy based on my observations that they frequently raise the price after a few days or a week or so. Sure enough, I just checked and the price is now $150.
It’s still $55/bottle…you just need to by 2+. It was listed at $60/bottle a few days ago, so agree you need to keep a sharp eye on this site!
The new website is awful. Way to much ChatGPT influenced comments and graphics.
There is no way it is helping sales
I posted here about shipping problems, also had some wine confirmed and on hold for future shipping that was no longer available when it came time to ship. P*issed me off because it was just a few bottles, not a lot of money and really not worth the effort to resolve. Anyway they blocked my account and sent me a nasty email to never contact them again. No problem…ha!
There has to be more to this. What aren’t you saying?
Ummm what do you want me to say? Not much more to the story at all..hadn’t bought a ton of wine from them, but about 10 cases from Oct '21 thru April '25. Usually bought wines to hold and meet the free shipping threshold. When it came to ship a couple of times it was like oh sorry, that wine we don’t have anymore with various excuses of what may have happened. Rachael was the customer service rep who was very responsive I might add. Not happy but ok got refunded, then it happened again, now I seemed to be dealing with a principal of the biz. Wines were confirmed shortly before shipping but then were not shipped. Oh sorry don’t have them. And yes I was less than happy. And it was small dollars, not the point. So did I express my displeasure? Yes. And I posted here. Next thing I know my account was blocked, could see my order history but no access to inventory or ability to order. When I sent an email to them about a wine in an email offer I then received the email that my account was noted that I could no longer purchase wines, I would be removed from all future communications and please don’t contact us again.
For another perspective, my experiences with Wine Slash has been quite positive. They appear to be a mom and pop operation and probably don’t have physical lockers to lock down your wines. I did have 1 or 2 wines that ended up out of stock, but they quickly refunded and its not a big deal to me. There’s always good wines on sale coming along. They have always been pleasant to work with.
I check their site a few times a week for new offers. They’ve always been really responsive and helpful. Even with bad bottles, they’ve offered refunds or 120% credit towards the next purchase.
Their new site is quite the hot mess right now. There is a lot of AI and it’s a lot harder to find the discounted offers (or did they just remove them all together?).
All that said, some of their wines are cheaper than what those same exact bottles are sold for at wholesale. For that reason, I’m sticking with them.
Their new site is kind of busy but I do like the drinking window that they now include with their listings. I always compare prices between Spies and Slash as there can be quite a difference. For instance, the 2023 “Mystery” Stagecoach Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon, Extended Maceration, Napa Wine Slash is offering for $50 was on Wine Spies for $65 earlier. In Spies offering it wasn’t a mystery, but if you search it’s easy to find out what this mystery is. Also, it would be helpful if the top listings had a note stating if there is a quantity discount.
There seems to be a love or hate relationship with this retailer. While I have never purchased from them, I know friends who have and they have had positive dealings with them.
Wineslash was brought to my attention because of this thread, specifically the 7th post and then the next several. You seem like a reasonable guy and its strange that they would block you.
I also had some wines go “out of stock” but they were 1/2 price clearance wines which I did wait a while to ship. So I assume it was an inventory problem, not a huge deal, but I was still miffed about it.
I’ve also had an order I placed be “out of stock” and refunded. Of course, they didn’t bother to look into fulfilling the order until I reached out to them a week after I placed the order, whereupon they examined their inventory and “discovered” that “we had our last few cases of this wine break”. First and only time I’ve bought from them, haven’t really been tempted by anything since.
The mystery offer today appears to be 2023 Patland Estate Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon “Extended Maceration”. But I could be wrong! Thoughts?
You’re right. I bought it when it was up months ago and have already received it.
