Wines from tonight (updated for round 2)

1918 Labaude and some 1912 Madeira for dessert

Couldn’t agree more on the steak. Have always been very underwhelmed by them. The soup is good and dessert is always strong.

their duck confit is excellent and a nice red Burg match.

Had the veal chop tonight which was pretty great.

1997 Maison Louis Jadot (Domaine Gagey) Clos St Denis Grand Cru

A steal at $200 a btl. A little reticent but opened up after ~30 min in the decanter. Currants, Sous Bois, and morels on the nose, beautifully integrated palate with tertiary elements starting to emerge. Grand Cru pedigree was evident. Concentration wasn’t to the level of bigger Grand Cru but had typical CSD elegance. Beautiful wine that went well with the veal chop.

I have a little difficulty understanding their pricing strategy. This was barely over retail if at all, but Lambrays were 2.5-3x retail. DRC RSV and GE were only ~2x lambrays pricing.

Was that $200 for a 375mL?

Well thats why we go there, right?

1978 Rayne Vigneau glass x 2

375
1975 Charles Krug
1962 H. Debost CR
1962 H. Debost Hermitage

Jadot/Gagey 1997 CSD

Total for those < $500

Comps for the jadot alone at typical markups are like $900; TFL has 98 Dugat Charmes for $915 which I would put in the same caliber/age of wine.
