Pulling out some big guns to impress the Chinese (alas, rules say domestic only, so no Lafite):
With first course (lobster): 2008 DuMOL Chardonnay
With second course (steak): 2005 Quilceda Creek Cabernet
With dessert (apple pie): 2008 Poet’s Leap Late Harvest Riesling Botrytis
With our budgetary mess, they are spending that much?
How about 2 buck chuck? Andre’s?
Well, actually they seem to have made very good choices. Very good wines that do not seem over the top price wise. I have never drank the dessert wine though- what do you mean no 75 D’Yquem!( Krug and DRC’s are for cigars afterwards with no reporters. Or, atleast some real fancy bourbon or whiskey).
Though, if the Americans get too drunk, heaven knows what trouble that could cause in the trade or military areas.
My uncle Hu would like you to know that he will not be blending coke with his Quilceda. In fact, he wants me to ask you why it’s acceptable for champagne to be mixed with orange juice and not Lafite with Coke. If someone can afford expensive wines, they should be able to do whatever they want to make it cater to their tastes. He says the coke jokes are getting old and he doesn’t make fun of others eating rice with lots of soy sauce or chicken blended with sweet and sour sauce.
Disclaimer: Just the opinions of Uncle President Hu, not Z. Hu.
My Uncle the Premier Wen (same family name as mine 溫) Jiabao would also like to concur with your opinion. He also wonders why Americans add lots of hot sauce to their fried rice or potstickers.
He apologizes but says there are a lot of bicycles and shoes made in China that might speed up your commute next time, while lowering our dependency on foreign oil.
Okay, all joking aside, who chooses the wines for these events? Pretty cool honor for the wineries! I wonder if the White House buys these wines or if the wineries sent them after the request.
Jorge, in China, the last name comes first. That’s why he’s Hu Jintao. Hu is his last name so he’s not Hu Hu.
My bad! It’s hard to figure out jokes sometimes! Don’t even get me started on how many jokes I’ve heard about my first and last name…I haven’t heard anything original in over a decade. Hu’s on first…knock knock, hu’s there? I’ve heard them all haha.
Pegged to today’s official state visit at the White House, China will announce a series of commercial deals to purchase $45 billion in U.S. exports, including a $19 billion purchase of 200 Boeing airplanes, a senior administration official said today.
The deal, the White House said, will support 235,000 jobs in the United States.
The investments by the Chinese are in a wide variety of other export sectors – including agricultural products, computer products, telecommunication and internet equipment, autos and auto parts, engineering machinery, software, and industrial chemical products.
“It’s a significant set of contracts and projects for cooperation,” the official said. The White House called it a “cross-border collaboration” to contribute to economic growth and development in both countries while emphasizing many clean energy and green technologies.
